2015 Alumnus of the Year 

Gary Mooney

Mr. Tom McGrath, President, St. Bonaventure's College is pleased to announce on behalf of the Selection Committee, that Mr. Gary Mooney '60, is the 2015 recipient of the St. Bonaventure's College Alumnus of the Year.  The award is named in honour of Brother J.B. Darcy, C.F.C., a former President of the College.

 

Since leaving St. Bonaventure's College, Gary has had a varied and distinguished career, first as a Jesuit and later as an teacher, academic, entrepreneur and lawyer.


Gary has degrees from the University of Guelph, University of Toronto, St. Mary's University, Toronto School of Theology of the University of Toronto (Regis College), Cambridge University and Osgood Law School. 

He has served on numerous boards and committees including the Learning Disability Association of Canada, the Canadian Orthopedic Association, Chesire House, Governing Council of the University of Toronto, Credit Valley Hospital Foundation, Osgood Hall Law School Dean's Advisory Board and has recently been appointed to the National Council of the C.D.Howe Institute. 

Gary served as Charter President for the Rotary Club in the Greater Toronto Area and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship. He was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal for leadership and service to the community as well as the Queen's Centenary Medal for public service. In 2004 he received the Business Person Of The Year award from the Mississuaga Board of Trade. In 2005 he was awarded the Gold Key Award from Osgood Hall Law School and the Arbor Award from the University of Toronto. 

As an alumnus Gary has been instrumental in organizing class reunions and gatherings and maintains a strong connection to his classmates and the school.

Welcome the Newest Alumni of St. Bonaventure's College
Class of 2015
St. Bonaventure's College welcomes the graduating class of 2015 into the alumni community. 

This year marked the Inaugural Alumni Tie Ceremony. The 20 graduates removed their school tie, presented it to their parents and received the official St. Bonaventure's College alumni tie from Alumnus Harold Cahill '39 and  President Tom McGrath.

We wish this students all the best in their future endeavours and we look forward to seeing them at our alumni events!

Alumnus Inducted in the Newfoundland Basketball Association Hall of Fame
Alumni Ted Byrne '83 and his father Ed Byrne '60
at the NLBA ceremony on June 26th. 
Edward (Ted) Byrne '83 was honoured for his outstanding achievement in basketball by being inducted in to the Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Hall of Fame on June 26th. 

Ted started his basketball career at St. Bon's in 1980. Unknown to him at the time it was the beginning of a very extraordinary journey. With this journey came many accomplishments by this St. John's native; Senior City and 4A Provincial Championships, Junior City Champs, member of Provincial and Canada Games teams. He had an extremely successful university career with the Acadia Axeman winning numerous championships and individual awards. 

Ted was also the first Newfoundlander ever to be selected to the Canadian Men's National Basketball Team (1990-1994). He was also the first Newfoundlander to play professionally (1994-1998) in the Swiss National LNB.

We extend our congratulations to Ted on this accomplishment.

Second Annual Golf Tournament a Huge Success!

On June 18th we held the 2nd Annual St. Bon's Cup Golf Tournament. 


Twenty-five teams came out to enjoy the beautiful sunny day on the green at Glendenning! 


Thank you to all the teams, sponsors, committee members and volunteers who helped make this event a big success. 


We raised over $13,000 to go towards areas of greatest need at St. Bon's. 


Mark your calendars and join us for the 3rd Annual St. Bon's cup on June 16th, 2016.

Fallen 51 Dinner
Crow's Nest Officer's Club

Join us for the Second Annual Fallen 51 dinner in honour of the 51 boys of St. Bonaventure's College that made the supreme sacrifice during the first World War. 

This year's dinner will feature Gary Browne '63 speaking on college alumnus Lieutenant Colonel Padre Thomas Nangle C.F '1909 and his extraordinary contribution during the first World War and his efforts in ensuring the fallen were not forgotten. 

Tickets are $200 with a receipt for the tax deductible portion.

Look Who's In The Halls Of St. Bon's
Classmates Jim Walsh '83, Paul Donovan '83, and Jeff White '83 paid a visit to Mullock Hall last week to reminisce. The alumni were in town to watch fellow classmate Ted Byrne '83 be inducted into the NL Basketball Hall of Fame on June 26th.
