2016 Annual Membership Meeting
 and Election of Officers
Dear Society Member,
 
BHS is pleased to announce the candidates for the 2016-2018 term.
The election takes place at the Annual Membership meeting. Elections will be held Saturday, May 14, 2016, 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at the Central Area Senior Center, 500 30th Avenue South, Seattle WA 98144.

The following offices are available:

President
The President presides over all meetings of the BHS except Standing and Special Committee meetings. The President shall appoint all committee chairs, and shall be an ex officio member of all committees except the Nominating Committee. The President or designated member of the Board of Directors shall act for the Society when appropriate. Presidential authority to commit the Society in any manner shall be restricted to approval by the Board of Directors. The President may sign checks. The President shall be bonded.

Vice-President
The Vice-President shall assist the President in the execution of presidential duties, assist with Society activities at the President's request, and shall act in accordance with the duties of the office of the President in the absence of the President.

Recording Secretary  

The Recording Secretary shall keep minutes of all proceedings of the Society making the same available to members before all meetings. The Recording Secretary shall maintain record books in which the Constitution and Bylaws and minutes are entered, with any amendments to these documents properly recorded, and shall have current record book(s) on hand at every meeting. When committee reports are received, the Recording Secretary shall record the date they were received and shall preserve them among the Society's records. In the absence of the President and the Vice-President, the Recording Secretary shall call the meeting order and preside until the selection of a chair pro tem.

Corresponding Secretary
The Corresponding Secretary shall be responsible for the general correspondence for the organization; that is, correspondence which is not a function of other offices or committees, and shall read the same at meetings. The Corresponding Secretary shall be responsible for distributing agenda.

Treasurer
The Treasurer shall have charge of all funds of the Society, depositing same in an authorized bank chosen by and in the name of the Black Heritage Society of Washington State. The Treasurer shall be bonded. The Treasurer shall have charge of all funds of the Society, depositing same in an authorized bank chosen by and in the name of the Black Heritage Society of Washington State, Inc. The Treasurer shall write checks as approved by the Executive Committee. The Treasurer shall give a report of income and expenses at each meeting, and at any other time at the request of the President.
