Dear Fellow Democrat:
This week, the Dallas County Democratic Party (DCDP) sponsored 2 events: 1) a debate watch party; and 2) a fundraising seminar for first-time house district candidates. Both were a success.
The debate watch party was free, so the price was right. Democrats gathered at Sundown at the Granada to watch the Democratic presidential debate. The next debate is to be scheduled in May. As soon as we know the date, we will let you know.
The fundraising seminar was held over the dinner break so as to cause the least amount of interference with campaigning. All first-time house district candidates were represented, in person and/or through their fundraising staff members. Panelists included: State Representative Mary Gonzalez (D. El Paso); Megan Rodman, Dallas political consultant and former Finance Director for gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis; Leigh Bailey, former house district candidate and current Dallas Annie's List Luncheon Chairwoman; and myself. The seminar was very timely since the next reporting deadline is on July 15thfor the reporting period from January 1st through June 30th of 2016. This report will be crucial for fundraising efforts of all candidates. Not only do the candidates need money to pay campaign expenses but the reported dollar amounts are one of the few measurable factors to show a candidate's viability.
Please calendar June 30th and make a point to contribute to your Democratic candidates prior to that date so that they can include your contribution on this important report. Handouts from the fundraising seminar are available through DCDP Special House District Coordinator Clay Arnold (214-821-8331).
The DCDP Election Team is now confirming election judges and polling locations for the May 24th primary runoff. The DCDP hosted an Election Judge Appreciation Party on March 29th. Surveys completed by election judges are being compiled, and the results will help to improve future elections.
