Pastor's Message
Dear Friends in Christ,

Jesus Christ, God's Son, the Savior, is in a class all by himself.  When Jesus was confronted by demons He responded with authority and power.  The demons knew his power and authority: "I know who you are-the Holy One of God."( Luke 4:34b).  The people were amazed and said to one another, "What is this Word?  For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out."

Jesus is God and we are not.  The devil is surely active and our own sinful flesh continues to try to tempt, distract, lie, deceive, and redirect our trust away from Christ and toward idols, false objects of faith.  But the mystery of Christ has been revealed, He is the Holy One of God.  Through Jesus, the Messiah, the God of Israel made flesh, we have fellowship with the God of Israel.  He is the Righteous One whose innocent suffering and death on the cross paid the ransom price for sin.  And through his resurrection He gives rest and eternal life to His oppressed people.

In baptism you have been made alive by the Holy Spirit through faith in Christ.  And he promises to keep you in true faith through the Gospel and the Sacraments.  In God's almighty hands you do not need to fear the tempter's power.  He gives you the armor of God to protect you from the devil's schemes.  And through Christ, He gives you a share in his victory.  Jesus is the one we look to for every need of body and soul, pray to, rely upon and take refuge in.  Jesus deserves to be worshiped and adored.

Join us for Living Lent, a special series of services for the season of Lent beginning Ash Wednesday, February 10, 6:30 p.m.  Each service in this series focuses on a word to consider while living Lent as Easter people: Ponder, Purpose, People, Proclaim, Praise, Pain, Palms, Prayer, Passion and Paradise. The Ash  Wednesday service in the series is based on the word PONDER and reminds us that Lent is a time to ponder our relationship with God and with one another and to discover the love of God seen in the cross and empty tomb. The service includes an Imposition of Ashes, readings from Scripture, a children's sermon, a sermon and hymns that help us to remember that we are people of the resurrection living in Lent.

Each week during Lent prior to the service you are invited to join in a Soup Supper beginning at  5:15 p.m.  Click here for full schedule.

Food for the Poor update
The Board of Evangelism would like to thank everyone who gave of their time, prayers and money to help us reach our goal to build a house for a family in Haiti.
We raised a total of $3619 and here is a breakdown of what this does:
  • $3200 builds a house
  • $125 provides a solar light kit
  • $114 provides a sewing machine, fabric & thread
  • $125 provides 125 fingerlings for a fish pond
  • $100 buys two 100 qt. coolers to store the fish catch
  • $285 provides a water pump.
Praise God that we were able to help a family in need that now has a roof over their head and a decent place to call home. I"m reminded of Hebrews 13:16; Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

A missional prayer by Martin Luther
"Dear Father, we ask you first to give us your Word, so that the gospel may be properly preached throughout the world and then that it may also be received in faith and may work and dwell in us, so that your kingdom may pervade among us through the Word and the power of the Holy Spirit and the devil's kingdom may be destroyed so that he may have no right or power over us until finally his kingdom is utterly eradicated and sin, death, and hell wiped out, that we may live forever in perfect righteousness and blessedness" (LC III, 54)

Prayer for Calling a Principal
Merciful Lord, for the benefit of Your people You call faithful men and women to serve in a variety of offices in Your Church. Grant that Your Holy Spirit may lead and guide us in calling a principal to serve among us according to Your gracious will; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Hezekiah's Prayer
Jesus is God and the nations are not.  In the days of Hezekiah there were those who would level the God of Jacob, to the same power and authority as any gods of anyone or any nation.  The King of Assyria taunted the Israelites saying: "Do not listen to Hezekiah...lest Hezekiah mislead you, saying 'Yahweh will deliver us.' Have the gods of the nations delivered-each one his own land-from the hand of the king of Assyriah?"  Isaiah 36:16-20.  In response to the king's taunt, Hezekiah prayed.  God heard his prayer and the Assyrian army, 185,000 soldiers, was struck down overnight.  Here is Hezekiah's great prayer:

O Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, who sits enthroned on the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made the heavens and the earth. Incline, O Yahweh, your ear and hear; open, O Yahweh, your eyes and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God. Truly, O Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the lands and (even) their land and have put their gods into the fire-for they were not gods but the work of human hands, wood and stone-and they have destroyed them. But now, O Yahweh our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are Yahweh, you alone (Is. 37:16-20).

Sunday School Scoop
Highlight on 1st - 2nd Grade
This week we studied picnics and leftovers! We investigated just how amazing the miracle of turning two loaves and five fish into twelve baskets of extras was. Jesus demonstrated genuine thankfulness to God the Father for the meal, and, he modeled complete trust in God's ability and provision for what was needed. We can be like Jesus when we TRUST God to provide what we need.

Homework: Thank God each day for the little things (like food and toys) that He provides and thank Him each day for the big things (like salvation and faith)!
