Please pray for the family of The Rev. Dr. George M. Landes, Sr. who died April 7 in Allentown, PA. He was 87 years old. Rev. Landes served as assistant pastor of Govans Presbyterian Church, alongside The Rev. Dr. Lloyd Ice, from 1953 to 1956. A Memorial service was held Saturday for the pastor. To read more, click Rev. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Celebrates
20th Anniversary

The Presbyterian Disaster Assistance agency was founded 20 years ago by a handful of dedicated church leaders responding - then, mostly -- to victims and survivors of hurricane. In early-April, more than 100 members from the
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
National Response Team gathered in St. Louis MO for their annual meeting and an anniversary celebration.
The agency now provides aid to survivors and victims of natural and manmade disasters - both national and internationally. Its efforts include providing assistance to refugees, flooding in southern states, wildfires along the pacific west coast; as well as the water crisis in Flint Michigan and gun violence in our communities.
The Rev. Alonza Washington, one of the founding team members, said that it's rewarding to see how PDA has grown into a ministry of presence. "Now the vast need of volunteers has grown and PDA and the National Response Team has responded to the call. It's not if a disaster will happen, but when," said Washington. "We cover the whole spectrum and continue to provide this ministry like no one else can."
Susan Krehbiel, the Presbytery's Director of Congregational Advocacy, also works for PDA's refugee ministries and took part in the agency's training April 7-11. "As a PDA staff person, one of the highlights of the year for me is spending time with the National Response Team at their annual meeting," Susan said.
"I enjoy working with this dedicated group of Presbyterian volunteers to develop new ways that we can work with Presbyteries and Synods, supporting and equipping their local congregations in their ministries with refugees and asylum seekers. There is a great multiplying effect that happens when we have national volunteers supporting local volunteers that is truly inspirational."
The National Response Team consists of 96 members with an additional group of volunteers. In times of natural or human caused disasters, team members are deployed to areas of need to meet with presbyteries and churches, view damage or impact, and make final reports and recommendations to PDA for future assistance. The teams also lead trainings including compassion fatigue training for pastors and care providers.
Rick Turner, Associate for Domestic Disaster Response with PDA, said the "training is important because we may go to areas that are not always safe. You have to be prepared and trained because teams will interact with people who have been severely impacted by the loss of property and/or loved ones," he said.

The bi-annual assembly will bring thousands of Presbyterians to Baltimore and it is OUR job to be the "hosts with the most," providing hospitality, arranging transportation, gathering the hundreds of volunteers needed, offering side trips to local and regional attractions . . . you get the picture.

The theme of Light Street Presbyterian Church's Spring Retreat is "Food, Fellowship & Faith." Using the Federal Hill Farmers Market as a springboard, we will examine issues of food sustainability and justice in Baltimore City, and how we can address them as individuals and as a congregation. Prince of Peace's Used Book and Media Sale is back!
