Get to Know Alliance
As a student at Mount, you get the best of both worlds - a small campus feel with a close-knit surrounding community and a city with numerous activities for students. To get a feel for your new home, read about some off-campus locations where many Mount Union students spend their time:
  • Cinemark Carnation Cinema: Where else can you watch newly released blockbuster movies for $5.25? And on Discount Tuesday, tickets are only $3! Have you ever thought about becoming a movie critic?
  • Mount Union Gateway: The new retail and restaurant plaza, located directly across from the University on State Street, is a short walk away for a much-needed study break! So far, there's a Buffalo Wild Wings, Orange Leaf Yogurt, Farmer's National Bank, Papa Gyro's and Georgio's Pizza, with other businesses to come.
  • Starbucks: If you have a favorite coffee beverage, enjoy it with some new friends when you need motivation to write that big paper! If you don't have a favorite coffee beverage, there are plenty of other tasty options and a nice, relaxing atmosphere!
  • Jupiter Studios: If you take a trip downtown, be sure to check out this local art gallery, complete with organic pizzas and snacks. They often have live music, too!
  • Green Farms: Green Farms Country Market is located across from Wal-Mart and has a large selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other food items at very low costs. It's fun to pick up some health snacks to re-fuel during exam week!
  • Hot Pots Pottery: Pottery and canvas painting, candle making, mosaics, glass fusion - there are countless possibilities at Hot Pots! Keep this spot in mind when you need a fun night away from homework and studying.
Making Travel Arrangements
We know it can be expensive to make international travel arrangements, so we have some tips just for you.
  • We suggest flying into Akron-Canton Airport. Mount provides transportation to and from the Akron-Canton airport, which will save on travel costs once you land.
  • If you plan to purchase a roundtrip ticket, it is encouraged to schedule your flight home after all final exams are over. The last day of finals for Fall 2016 is Friday, December 16. You can find the academic calendar online here
  • You can find more travel information on the Pre-Arrival Module.
