With very heavy hearts we write this post about Antonio Ramos. He came to the Oakland Superheroes Mural Project in 2012 when the first mural was being created on San Pablo Ave. It was conceptually designed by McClymonds High School Students who reimagined themselves as superheroes solving problems in their community. Living in the neighborhood he would walk past it and one day he asked if he could help. From that day on he was working on the project every day. From his work o n that mural, he stayed in touch to be brought on as a paid muralist for wall #3, on West Street, conceptually designed by West Oakland Middle School students. His co-muralists, working alongside him every day, expressed how excited he was for the project and how contagious it was. He loved the messages and images envisioned by the students being spread throughout the community. Every day he would take pictures with his Canon EOS Rebel and post them on his Facebook. He loved to listen to music as he worked, and today he brought a speaker to play music on as the mural went up. He had a huge smile on his face this morning as he rolled up in his car, one fellow muralist recalled. He was a bright light on the team, bringing positivity, humility and dedication to the project. He died this morning from senseless gun violence that continues to plague our communities.

It is with such sadness we share this news and he will be deeply missed. We would like to commemorate him with the creation of this 3rd mural of the Oakland Superheroes Mural Project.

After the madness, the team of muralists returned to Attitudinal Healing Connection, 2 blocks away, where a healing circle took place to begin to process the loss that has occurred. It is absolutely horrible what has happened. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

In the midst of beautifying the community with youth messages of hope and love, this horrific tragedy happens. Help us take a stand against violence in Oakland.

We will hold a candle lit vigil and healing ceremony at the wall, located at West Street and 35th Street, at 9:30am tomorrow, Wednesday, September 30th.

Antonio's friends have created a fundraiser to cover funeral costs:  https://www.youcaring.com/antonio-s-parents-442193
