Making sure every child living in foster care is cared for by a caregiver (foster, relative, fictive and/or adoptive) who provides skilled, nurturing parenting while helping the child maintain connections to his or her family.
The QPI Nevada Brand
Foster parents nurture children who have experienced trauma and provide a safe, loving and healing environment in which the children can thrive. They are parenting partners who honor and support family relationships. Foster parents are dedicated, informed and committed advocates for children. They are instrumental and fully supported members of the child and family team. Great foster parents make a difference for children and families in our community.

Spotlight on Quality:
Minnie Hill, Quality Case Manager

Each month the Foster Parent Champion Program will highlight a caregiver or case manager who exemplifies the quality of care that we strive for as a community, focused on the needs of children.

This month, we shine the spotlight on case manager Minnie Hill. When talking with Minnie about her involvement with caregivers, she shared, "These foster parents are truly ones that meet our new QPI statement and it is my desire to continue assisting them as much as possible."

Foster Parents, Child Welfare Advocates Gather in San Diego for
Annual QPI Conference

Members of the QPI Nevada contingent at the annual QPI National Conference in San Diego last month.

Hundreds of child welfare advocates, caregivers and former youth in care from around the nation gathered in San Diego in January for the annual QPI National Conference. Under the "Connected Through Kids" theme, attendees connected, discussed recruitment methods and continued to build long-term momentum for QPI practices.

One highlight from the conference was the Youth Panel, where former foster youth shared their ideas on quality parenting and how those concepts can play a role in recruiting, training and retaining families.

Workgroup Spotlight:
Community Partnerships

The QPI Community Partnerships workgroup is comprised of more than 50 community partners in the child welfare, business, medical, education, law enforcement and human services community. The workgroup focuses on increasing the community's awareness of -- and support for -- foster children and foster parents through effective community partnerships.

Throughout 2014, the Community Partnerships workgroup developed the Foster Friends Program -- an outlet for the community to plug into DFS and build an effective network of community support for children in care and their caregivers.

Co-Leads: Mari Parlade, DFS; Denise Tanata-Ashby, Children's Advocacy Alliance; Leslie Murdock, child welfare consultant.

Meetings: Second Tuesday of each month.

Want to get involved? The Community Partnerships workgroup is always looking for motivated, engaged caregivers and community members who want to join in developing solutions to benefit all children in care.

If you're interested in learning more about this workgroup, please send us an email message to [email protected] or call 702-455-1196.
