Hundreds of individuals, both in person and remotely, contributed time and effort to the mapathon at AAG in San Francisco!   

Over the three-day event, more than 17,000 buildings and 5,000 km of roads were added to OpenStreetMap for projects on Secondary Cities in Ethiopia, Disaster Preparation in Nepal, and Health Prevention in Mozambique.
Five universities map simultaneously to fight malaria
IS IT A NATIONAL RECORD?
Students of Youth Mappers chapters at five separate universities in the US joined together at the same time on April 1st during the AAG Mapathon to create open spatial data to support the fight against malaria in Mozambique.  The data on buildings, waterways, and roads will be used by USAID and the Peace Corps to help make this year's spray campaign effective and efficient and reach more affected areas.   Watch the students greet each other across cyberspace: George Washington University, Texas Tech University, West Virginia University, George Mason University, University of Central Florida chapters are collaborating to get this work done. Meanwhile, we have reason to believe it may have been the largest number of universities holding simultaneous mapathons ever in the US!

The American Geographical Society announces its newest addition to GeoBadges, a platform which recognizes learners of all ages for their skills and service. Three new Youth Mappers GeoBadges being featured are Organizer, Mentor and Founder.

This program offers you the chance to network with others around the world seeking to create and use spatial data to address real world development challenges.  It is a place to learn, organize, and exchange information, ideas, and results. There is no cost for affiliation or enjoying the benefits of being a part of the network. 

For active chapters in eligible countries, we  will also offer leadership and fellowship opportunities, focused activities for female mappers and support for students and their faculty advisors to work with local communities to make a difference, together.
