ICBSD Guest Lectures at Lake Area Tech
Thursday April 8th, ICBSD President & CEO, Greg D. McCurry, guest lectured in two Lake Area Tech courses, Macro Economics and Financial Statement Analysis.
The Financial Services Program students were provided with an overview of the community banking industry in South Dakota as well as a list of ICBSD member banks before watching the short video "History of Central Banking in the United States", provided by the Federal Reserve.
Greg then led a discussion with the students regarding the origins of the central bank and students discussed positions taken by Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson during the debate regarding the constitutionality of a central bank in the United States.
All students were asked to fill out an information card, which will be shared with member banks. Our goal is to connect students from Lake Area Tech's Financial Services Program with community banks from the students' home towns.
Watch for more information coming to your bank soon. |

If your bank is impacted, consider CBFS, an independent agency owned by ICBM. CBFS specializes in serving community banks and offers financial institution bond, directors and officers liability, cyber insurance, property and casualty insurance, and mortgage products.

NIST Cybersecurity seminar is a big opportunity for businesses
Hosted by SDN Communications, South Dakota Telecomuntaions Assocations and Dakota State
Some industries used to shoulder more risk than others as potential victims of cyberattacks. That's no longer the case. Because of the linked nature of commercial enterprises today, nearly all businesses and organizations must be aware of cyber threats and protect themselves.
"There used to be industries that could kind of ignore it. If you look at the attacks now, they're hitting virtually every industry." says John Pauli, who teacher cyber security courses at
Dakota State University.
"We're all interconnected now."

FDIC - A Framework for Cybersecurity
A Changing Landscape of Regulation
Over the last twelve months, there have been numerous significant changes to financial institution Information Technology regulation. The FFIEC has been particularly busy, releasing topical guidance documents (Destructive Malware, Cyber Attacks Compromising Credentials, Extortion), making wholesale changes to the way it expects IT Operations to be managed via an update to the IT Management Handbook, and - of course - the big ticket item: the FFIEC Cybersecurity Assessment Tool.
Most recently, the FDIC published an article titled "A Framework for Cybersecurity" in the Winter 2015 edition of its quarterly magazine, Supervisory Insights. In this article, the FDIC highlights the fundamental basics for building protections against cyber threats into a financial institution's Information Security Program (ISP) and culture.
