Who is Fr. Simon?
You may have seen a slim Asian priest with glasses at mass or around church. If not, you will! That's Fr. Simon!
Fr. Simon, from Seoul, South Korea, is here for a master's program in spiritual direction at Loyola University. He is also here to learn English. He will be living at the rectory for the next 2 years, and hopes that his English will improve enough to say mass here.
That's where you come in! He would love to get to know more parishioners and practice his English. He will be at the back of church after the 10 am mass on Sunday, so stop by and say hello. He will not be offended at all if you need to ask him to repeat a phrase or two!
Fr. Simon feels so lucky to be living here at St. Josaphat. There are many Korean priests and nuns in Chicago for educational programs and to learn English, and he is the only one in the archdiocese who lives in a parish. He is very grateful to Fr. Rich and everyone at St. Josaphat who have accepted and welcomed him.
Why not invite Fr. Simon over for brunch or dinner? Or if you don't cook, out to dinner or coffee? He would welcome the chance to speak more English, and get to know your family better. It would be a nice cultural exchange, too! His email is [email protected]
