General Announcements 

SCOUT SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2016
Scout Sunday allows Troop 599 to honor the vital role the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church plays in the Scouting in the Greater Memorial Area. 
 
On Sunday, February 7, 2016, Troop 599 Scouts, Families and Adult Leaders will gather together to assist in MDUMC's Worship Services and to demonstrate our gratitude to MDUMC for their support of The Thunderbirds.
 
All Scouts are expected to attend, in full Class A Uniforms, and to assist with Ushering, the Service of Communion or with The Soup Mobile.  Service Hours are available and sign-up is mandatory (sign up on Tuesday evenings.)
 
Additionally, all Scouts are expected to participate in the Annual Troop Picture, immediately following the final Sunday Service.  Please make arrangements to be at Scout Sunday AND in our Troop Picture!   
 
COURT OF HONOR REMINDER (January 26, 2016)
Troop 599's first Court of Honor for 2016 will be held on T uesday night, January 26, 2016, at 7 PM in Wesley Hall! All Scouts and Families are requested to attend this important meeting that recognizes the hard work and accomplishments of our honorees.

As a Troop, we only hold Courts of Honor three times during the year.  Since this is an important meeting for our Troop, note that all Scouts and Leaders should the wear full Class A uniform -- including Merit Badge sashes.    

Also, note that, since the Court of Honor will begin at 7 PM, there will be no FCE Program at 6:30 on January 26!

Again, all Scouts and Families, especially new Scouts and their Families, are strongly encouraged to attend this Court honoring Thunderbird Scouts.

Troop Guides Needed !!!
Are you the next Troop Guide? Mr White is now accepting resumes and applications for this Senior POR. This role is open to Scouts that are currently Star or Life rank and are 14 years or older. For other details, requirements, or questions about this opportunity, please see Mr White.

Membership Cards and Journey to Excellence Patches
New membership cards have arrived for 2016.  Cards will be included in the envelopes of all scouts receiving rank advancement, merit badges or other special awards at the Court of Honor on Tuesday. 

The troop once again qualified for the Journey to Excellence Award at the Gold Level and with 100% Boys' Life.  Patches will be included in the envelopes of all scouts receiving rank advancement, merit badges or other special awards at the Court of Honor on Tuesday (with the exception of several scouts who received their patches earlier this month).  Please remove the old patch from your uniform and replace it with the new patch ASAP. 

If you do not receive an envelope at the Court of Honor, see Committee Chairman, Walter Brookhart, at the back of the room to receive your membership card and JTE patch.  

NEW SCOUT HANDBOOKS HAVE ARRIVED
The new Scout Handbooks (2016 Edition) have finally arrived.  New FCE scouts MUST use the new Handbook.  Older scouts may continue with their old Handbooks, although they may only complete the rank on which they are currently working under the old requirements. 

The new Handbooks will be available for purchase at the Court of Honor on Tuesday and at future meetings.  Price is $15.00 for the regular paperback Handbook.  A spiral-bound Handbook is also available priced at $20.00.  See Mr. Brookhart at the back of the room after the Court of Honor or in the office at the back of the Scout Lodge during any meeting

NO FCE's  on Tuesday.  Meet down stairs in Wesleyan hall at 7:00 for Court of Honor (COH)
 
New FCE'S: study your knots (square, two half hitches, and taught line hitch) and meet Mr.Napp at 6:30 in the back of Wesley hall to get things signed off.
Troop 599 Training Programs:

Scout and Adult Training and Planning for Enchanted Rock
Climb on Safely Training and E-Rock Planning and Site Assignments is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13 at the Scout Hut.  All Scouts and Adults working the climbing and rappelling sites will need to attend.  

CPR - Saturday, January 30th  - Scouts and Adults

T he first Personal Fitness merit badge classes is 6:30 on Tuesday, January 19th in the 2nd floor merit badge classroom.  The next physical fitness test is Sunday, January 31.

High Adventure and Outings
 

Summer Camp
Skymont Scout Reservation - Altamont, Tennessee
25th June - 2 July, 2016

We are going to TENNESSEE for Summer Camp in June. Come join us at Skymont Scout Reservation for the best "scouting vacation" of the summer. Sign Up is now active online on the Troop website (scouttroop599.org) and more information can be found on our website, at the Skymont website (http://www.skymont.org/) and at the Troop presentation during the Court of Honor on January 26th. Canada Boundary Waters Canoe Trip - Mid-Late July 2016

Sign up for the troop's high adventure to the Boundary Waters - Quetico Provincial Park Canoe/Fishing trip this next July 2016. The specific dates will not be known until after the permit lottery in March but it will be an eight day trip in mid to late July. Cost is estimated at $850 per person (depending upon the number going). We are looking for a maximum of 16 people - Scouts and Adults. See Mr. Beebe for information.

As a reminder, each patrol has an adult mentor who has volunteered to advise the scouts of that patrol in various matters such as preparation for camp outs and rank advancement, and execution of their duties in their POR in some circumstances.
