2014 Tax Tips for Forest Landowners
As a forest owner, understanding tax law is an important part of owning and managing timber, participating in forest stewardship activities, and complying with tax law. The USDA Forest Service-Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry recently compiled a handy document that documents changes to forest tax law as of December 2014. January webinar: Updates on forest management certification standards
Forests have been certified for both Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) standards. Both programs are anticipated to announce changes soon. New year, new quarantines on invasive species
2014 concluded with a lot of activity in the area of invasive species and forest health in Minnesota. Specifically, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture instituted a statewide quarantine for the mountain pine beetle and emerald ash borer was confirmed in Dakota County. Click here to learn more.
