Director's Note

Hello! I hope you enjoyed the end to your summer and have adjusted to your busy fall routines! Here at SNHS our fall season is full of exciting projects. From our continued work on Ohio Ave., to our project partnering with Parkside High School on Tangier Street, we are really moving full steam into the colder months! Look for us out and about and please feel free to stop us and talk about how we can make local home ownership a reality for you!

I want to extend a warm 'Thank You' to Susan Megargee for her long- time dedication to the SNHS Board of Directors. We cannot thank her enough for her loyalty, contributions or passion over the years. As she transitions off of our Board of Directors, I want everyone to know the incredible legacy she leaves. Thank you, Susan!

From all of us at SNHS, we want to offer warm welcome to two new Board members: Brad Phillips and Jennifer Willing. Brad joins us as a Camden neighborhood resident and we are thankful for his service to our organization! As a partner with Twilley, Rommel and Stephens, Jennifer brings a valued skill set to our already wonderful Board. Thank you both for agreeing to be of service to our organization and your community!

SNHS Partners with Salisbury University Marketing Class on Millennial Marketing Campaign; Fighting the "Brain Drain" from a Housing Perspective

Recently, our Communications Coordinator, Alison Pulcher, went back into the classroom at SU! Alison joined Mrs. Morris's class in Perdue Hall, as they took on a marketing campaign targeting millennial homeowners in Salisbury.

"As a learning experience for the students and myself, I am thrilled to see what they come up with! There are some great initiatives in the community to keep college students in Salisbury, and we hope to aid in that effort by encouraging home ownership!" Alison said.

The group of students chose to work with SNHS themselves and were impressive, bright and dedicated to the task assigned by Alison. SNHS is excited to see where this class leads the millennial marketing focus of SNHS!

SNHS Out & About!

We attended Somerset CARE and enjoyed interacting with the other vendors and attendees as we shared our knowledge of financial fitness and homebuyer education!

We were ALL out for September's 3rd Friday! With a theme of 'Urban Artscapes,' we were excited to build a 3-D mural of what a neighborhood looks like! We will be expanding our mural every month! Join us to offer your neighborhood perspective to the project!

We were thrilled to be a part of St. James AME Zion Church's annual Health Fair! We believe that a safe, secure place to live improves overall health!
Staff Spotlight: Jane Hoy

Jane Hoy is our Home Ownership Services Manager. We thought we'd let her share her very own story with you this month!

I am originally from Wilmington Delaware and came to Salisbury when I married my wonderful husband nine years ago.  I never thought I would become a resident here.  I passed through the city numerous times while on my way to one of my favorite places, Ocean City, but to live here was not even on my radar!

Employment was the issue; I didn't think there were many opportunities for me and my thoughts were that my future husband would have to relocate to Wilmington.  As I was searching the internet I stumbled upon SNHS. They were looking for a "Housing Counselor" and it was the last day they were accepting resumes. So I quickly wrote a cover letter, mailed my resume, called the office and left a message to at least consider me for an interview.  Well, they did call me and the rest is history! I just celebrated my 9th anniversary with SNHS and I look forward to the future!

My Michael and I are a blended family of 3 children and 6 grandchildren. We are very proud of each of them!
Prior to my marriage I was a single parent and I worked hard to provide and invest in my daughter.  She attended private school and upon graduation she went to Morgan State University, has a BA in Political Science and a Master Degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Non-Profit Management. Currently she is employed at John Hopkins as the director, "Youth Opportunities" for at risk youths and she is a homeowner in Baltimore.  I must say she is one of my greatest accomplishments.

I enjoy traveling, reading, gardening, shopping and grand-parenting! I am a member of the Delmarva Toastmasters' club; TM is an international speaking and leadership organization.

The most rewarding aspect of my job is assisting people and families as they reach their goals. Whether it be: restoring their credit, learning how to budget, retaining their home from foreclosure or deciding to short sale or purchasing their first home.  If I have impacted them enough to just take one step towards their desires and dreams then I consider the situation a success. This isn't just as it relates to my job but to anyone that has lost their way on this road called life for whatever the reason. If I can speak a word of hope and be a lamp unto their feet I measure that has success.  There is a song that states if I can help somebody along the way then my living is not in vain.
