I have often heard people say that trying to keep up with the amount of communications they receive is like drinking from a firehose. How many emails do you receive daily? Text messages? Anyone out there still use a phone to call people?
Twitter has forced us into conveying a message that is less than 140 characters. Think it doesn't work? As of May 2015, Twitter had more than 500 million users, out of which, more than 332 million are active (source: Wikipedia). The creators of Twitter have made very successful careers out of keeping messages short.
What does this mean to you in your business? Your messages to your clients and employees need to be crisp, clear and concise. Get to the point; especially if you cater to or employ millennials. No one wants to listen to a long, drawn-out sales presentation. No one wants to listen to their boss give a 30 minute presentation, read a multi-page memo or watch a long training video. We have trained our brains to turn off after a very short amount of time.
At MCE, we incorporate this thinking into our programs and resources. No one sits listening to our facilitators lecture in our sessions. We get you up and moving - interactive and experiential - that's our commitment to you, our learner. We supplement our programs with quick tips, and have recently launched a series of tips on our YouTube channel.
In keeping with my message of brevity, that's it for my message this month!
