All are invited to the 3rd Sunday of Easter! Come witness and celebrate the commissioning of our Stephen Ministers at both the 9:30 am Traditional and 11:00 am Contemporary Services.
|
MESSAGE FROM PASTOR JON
Dear Ark and Dove Friends and Families,
This Sunday, at both services, our congregation will commission five Stephen Ministers. These loving and dedicated people have been in training since the fall and are now ready to begin their caring ministry at Ark and Dove. As our first class of Stephen Ministers, these caring individuals will enable Ark and Dove to be an even more compassionate community.
The Stephen Ministers commissioned this Sunday are Laurie Barrow, Vaughn Brown, Kelly Burnett, Denise Grassel, Gail Huff, and Mary Stum. For months, they have been preparing under the careful leadership of Kelly Burnett. They have studied and practiced skills in such areas as wrestling with difficult feelings, crisis intervention, asserting oneself with gentleness and firmness, grief, life transitions, and many other topics that have equipped them to help those experiencing the difficulties of life. And still, their learning is not done. They will continue to learn about new topics in bimonthly meetings. I am so thankful for their dedication and for their gifts of caring and listening.
After their commissioning, these Stephen Ministers will be assigned to care for our congregation and community, working with those of us who are experiencing such life crises as hospitalization, retirement, financial setback, the loss of a loved one, or any number of other problems people face in daily life.
Please join us in praying for these Stephen Ministers this Sunday and on a regular basis, that they might be encouraged in their ministries.
Peace,
Jon

HOUSEHOLD PRAYERS
I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me. --John 10:14
God of compassion: In Christ Jesus, you care for us as the shepherd cares for sheep. You know us deeply. You know us well. Because of this, you care for us in the ways we need it most. May we know you in the great and small ways we are cared for this day. Clear our hearts and minds, that we might be attentive to others. And, in getting to know those around us, lead us to love them in the ways they need it most. Amen.
Stephen, full of grace and power, did great wonders and signs among the people. --Acts 6:8
Giving God: You gave Stephen gifts in order to share your care and compassion with your people. You also gave Stephen the ability to speak boldly with love. We are each given gifts to care for others, though they are many and diverse. Awaken us to that which you have given us, so that the world may know your love. Give us the courage to speak the truth in love, wherever it needs to be spoken. Amen.

TES FOR YOU
|
I am anxiously looking for instrumentalists who play the oboe, bassoon, clarinet, or double bass. Do you or someone you know play any of these instruments? Would you be interested in joining us for our cantata,
Mass of the Children by John Rutter? This coming week, we will be deep into rehearsals for our cantata (the orchestra won't rehearse for a few weeks still).
In addition to the orchestra and youth choir, I am also putting together a group of high school/middle school aged youth to sing as well. Rehearsals will begin this week and this group will meet from 5:30-6:15 on Thursdays.
The cantata is June 12th. Please get in touch if you'd like to be a part of this incredible work!
Love,
Rebecca

The LOGOS school year came to a close this past Tuesday, and now it is time for the long wait until conference! However, we have some wonderful music events planned for the interim months to keep everyone's spirits high! So, for all youth who are interested in being a part of worship - you don't have to wait until LOGOS starts again in September - feel free to join us anytime!
God bless,
Mark

Please consider joining the Deacons in providing loving care through the simple gift of meals to our extended families in need. This kindness is greatly appreciated at a time when meal preparation is difficult or impossible. We have needs for families of 2 - 5 members. Perhaps you prefer not to cook, but would be willing to assist by delivering, which is also greatly appreciated! If you are able to prepare and/or deliver food, please contact Bill Gaurin billg.deacon@gmail.com or Judy Cooper jkcooper@umd.edu
