April eNotes
Issue LVIII
In this issue:
Dear ,

Last Sunday we had our annual Gala, which was a huge success and many of you were there or helped in some way.  Thank you.  A special thanks to all of our SPONSORS, without whom we couldn't have such a fantastic event.  (See some photos here.)

The Auburn Symphony will be finishing up our season with a tip of the derby to the Gershwin brothers, George and Ira.

On Saturday, April 23rd, pianist and Gershwin expert Richard Glazier will be performing his fascinating one-man multi-media show "Homage to The Brothers Gershwin" at the State Theatre, co-presented by the Auburn Symphony and Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center. Tickets for this unique exploration of the Gershwins, their music and American legacy are $28 and can be purchased ONLINE today!

And then on Sunday, May 8th, Mr. Glazier will join the Auburn Symphony at our annual trip to the Mondavi Center for our Mother's Day Spectacular to perform Gershwin's classic piano concerto "Rhapsody in Blue."  Tickets for this always  amazing season-ending concert are $40 ($20 for students) and can be purchased online now.

Mr. Glazier is THE preeminent expert on the Gershwin Brothers, who are widely considered "America's Composers," having written some of the most recognizable music in the Am erican canon.  Richard's access to the Gershwin family vaults has helped him create an  incredible multi-media show.

Glazier  was inspired at an early age by the music of the legendary George & Ira Gershwin .  At age 9 he was prompted to write a fan letter to famed lyricist Ira and subsequently the two became friends.  Fueled by Ira's encouragement and interest, Glazier dedicated himself to the Gershwin repertoire and the American Popular Songbook, eventually becoming one of the genre's leading authorities.  Over the years he has also developed a keen interest in contemporary music standards from the Broadway stage and the Hollywood screen.

Richard's passion for the Great American Popular Song and more contemporary standards has led him to create special programs celebrating both eras.  He plays incredible piano arrangements, then tells the history behind the songs, sharing  fascinating stories and funny anecdotes about the composers, the shows, the films, and the stars.  His programs often include vintage images and rare film clips.
Mondavi Center

The Mondavi Mo ther's Day concert program not only includes Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, but opens with Bernstein's Candide Overture and the performance closes with Mahler's epic Symphony No. 1 .  Get your tickets today!

I hope to see you all at one or both of these upcoming shows!

Warmest regards,
Rob Haswell
