Village of Clarendon Hills Street Project Update

September 24, 2015
Since our last update, the Village has been working with the lead contractor to get the project back on schedule.  The contractor and their subcontractors are bringing in extra crews to complete the work, however completion will almost certainly be after the original timeline. We apologize for the delay in work, and inconsistent messaging this has caused.  The Village is working on ways to prevent these issues from reoccurring on next year's projects. That being said, the schedule below is still dependent on dry weather conditions and continued cooperation by the contractor.  Rainy weather will delay our progress and may push back when we can re-open your driveways.  We appreciate your patience and understanding.

TRAFFIC MEASURES
To facilitate getting the residents access to their homes and to reduce the congestion on the streets during construction we have changed Norfolk to make it a temporary one way street westbound only from Rose Place to Prospect.  In a similar fashion we have changed Golf Road making it a temporary one way street northbound only from Chestnut to Chicago. A detour route for thru traffic is also in place using Prospect to Chicago.  Once we have completed the curb and shoulder work along Golf and Norfolk and restored them to two way traffic, then we will make Waverly and Chestnut one way streets west of Rose Place when road construction begins there as well.  Waverly and Chestnut east of Rose Place are dead end streets and we will maintain two-way traffic on each street for those residents.  We will get Golf Road fully restored to two-way traffic before changing Rose Place. Norfolk will be fully open to two way traffic before we change Chestnut to one-way traffic during construction.  A detour route using Norfolk and Golf will be in place prior to the switch.

MCINTOSH, BLODGETT, GILBERT AND NORFOLK (OXFORD TO PROSPECT)
Leveling binder was placed on McIntosh, Blodgett, Gilbert and about half of Norfolk on Tuesday of this week.  The leveling binder on Norfolk is scheduled to be completed by Friday, September 25th.  After that, the roads in this area will stay in their current condition for the next month or so while the following is completed:
  • Driveway aprons;
  • Ditch improvements;
  • Topsoil and sod is replaced in the parkways disturbed during construction.
The final surface course of asphalt will be the last thing done on all of the streets within the Street program and is probably more than a month away from being done.

CHESTNUT STREET
Storm sewer work began along Chestnut on Wednesday.  A significant amount of this work will be going on at the intersection of Chestnut and Rose Place.  Storm sewer work is scheduled to be completed by October 2nd.  This storm sewer work is being done in conjunction the road project in order to improve storm water flow while the roads are dug up.

GOLF, JANE AND NORFOLK (PROSPECT TO CHICAGO)
Pouring of concrete shoulders and curbs along the WEST side of Golf Road and the SOUTH sides of Norfolk and Jane Court are being done this week along with concrete aprons.  This is scheduled to be completed by Friday, September 25th.  If work is completed by this Friday, then we would anticipate opening all of the driveways on Monday, September 28th by 4:00 pm.  A separate notice will be provided to those affected residents to confirm when you can use your driveways again.  We will re-open the existing asphalt driveways using temporary stone and grindings along the new concrete shoulder.   The work to replace the asphalt driveways can occur at any time because it does not require the resident to be out of their driveway for more than 30 minutes.  The new asphalt aprons and brick paver aprons will be completed in conjunction with the street resurfacing.  Once these driveways are open we will flip over to the opposite sides of these streets to begin working on those concrete shoulders and curbs.  Again a separate notice will be provided to residents before this work will begin so we can get their cars out of their driveways.

MIDDAUGH
This week we have begun ditching and rough grading for topsoil and sod along Middaugh near Ogden.  This work will continue moving southward along Middaugh doing both sides of the streets as they progress.  The lawn sprinkler systems damaged by construction will be repaired.  JRL Lawn Sprinklers will be contacting residents as they work on repairs to turn on and off their systems to make sure the necessary repairs get done.  Please contact us if we have mistakenly overlooked getting your repairs completed.  Finally the landscaper will be responsible for watering the sod this fall until it is established.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Village's Engineer Bill Sprague @ (224)315-0201 or the Public Works department @ (630)286-4750.

Sincerely,
Michael D. Millette
