Greetings scholars,

Welcome first-year students, and welcome back to those of you continuing at UCSD!  We hope you had a restful, rejuvenating, and successful summer. The beginning of a new academic year is always exciting, and we look forward to this time of year. There is a lot to do, learn, and take part in during fall quarter. We hope you take full advantage of the opportunities in our community, as well as in the classroom.

Welcome Week: OLC In Da House Event (Summer Bridge CASP Students) In_Da_House
Students who participated in OASIS Transition Programs (Summer Bridge and the TRiO Student Support Services Program) also participate in Oasis Learning Communities (OLC's).  

All students in OLC's are required to be at the  OASIS In Da House event tonight!

When: September 23 from 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM
Where: Center Hall 101

OASIS will go over what to expect in your OLC's, introduce you to your facilitators and classmates, and provide pizza!  

As a reminder, OLC's start Week 2.  There are no OLC's next week.

Welcome Week: CASP Eat n' Greet EATnGREET
We will see all returning and incoming CASP students from all cohorts at tomorrow's Welcome Week Eat 'n Greet.  This is our official kickoff to the academic year!

 4:00 PM- 6:00 PM

Where: Matthews Quad 
(the grassy area to the east of Student Services).

Special Guest: Chancellor Pradeep Khosla

Come enjoy gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches from Cheesy Amigos  and refreshing and unique popsicles from  Viva Pops .

Welcome to our newest CASP staff members! newfaces
CASP is excited to welcome to new members of our office staff.  Stop by and say hi!  You can learn more about them on the CASP Staff page, or by reading below.

Karen Van Ness,  Academic Support Coordinator
Karen joins CASP after serving as the coordinator for the Faculty Mentor Program and Undergraduate Research Conferences at UCSD.  She has a master's degree in Literatures in English and is currently working on her doctorate in Education at UCSD. Karen is the inaugural staff member in the position of Academic Support Coordinator, and will be leading the peer mentorship program, EDS course, as well as assessing and providing instructional and academic support services for our scholars.

Alison Herr, Graduate Assistant
Alison is a candidate for a Masters of Art in Education (Postsecondary Educational Leadership) at San Diego State University.  She received her BA in Political Science at the University of San Diego along with her teaching credential in the social sciences.  After teaching and working in college and medical school admissions, she is very excited to be working directly with students at UCSD.

 NativeAmCalifornia Native American Day Celebration
The entire campus community is invited to take part in UC San Diego's 10th Annual California Native American Day Celebration. Throughout the academic year, UC San Diego will host a series of events to honor the heritage, culture and traditions of Native Americans. 

The first event will be the annual kick-off celebration at the International Center on Friday, Sept. 25 from 12:00 PM- 2:00 PM



This year's theme is "Unsettled Stories: Reclaiming This Land."

CASP Academic Advising Requirements Advising
JMC Advising Staff & 2014 CASP students
2015 Cohort (ENTERING STUDENTS)
If you are a new CASP student who is entering with the 2015 Cohort, you are required to meet with your academic adviser twice in the Fall 2015 Quarter .

2013 & 2014 Cohort (CONTINUING STUDENTS)
If you are a CASP student who entered with the 2014 Cohort, we ask that you please make an appointment to meet with an academic adviser once per quarter. 

Remember to identify yourself as a CASP student when meeting with an adviser, or when communicating through the VAC!
CASP Course Requirement for ENTERING STUDENTS - 2015 Cohort Course
CASP Course: EDS 50 and EDS 150 
All incoming Chancellor's Associates Scholars in the 2015 cohort are required to enroll in our CASP course during the Fall quarter of your first year at UCSD. The courses are EDS 50 and EDS 150. Y ou should already be enrolled in your CASP Course, EDS 50 (freshman students) or EDS 150 (transfer students).  If you have are NOT enrolled, please contact us right away - [email protected] or (858) 534-8366.

EDS 50 - For FRESHMAN Students  
Two sections-
Wednesdays from 1:00 - 1:50 p.m. (Center Hall 207)
Thursdays from 5:00 - 5:50 p.m. (Center Hall 218)
As a reminder, for the Thursday EDS 50 section, our class meeting will be the CASP Eat 'n Greet this week!

 
EDS 150 - For TRANSFER Students
Wednesdays from 2:00 - 2:50 p.m. (Sequoia Hall 147)

Each year, UCSD College Ambassadors help welcome over 50,000 visitors; conducting walking tours, speaking on student panels, and participating in special events related to recruitment and yield. They are an incredibly valuable part of the UCSD admissions process!
 
The Campus Tours Program is a proud partner in recruiting historically underrepresented populations, highlighting the many valuable resource centers on campus, and helping establish a campus climate that celebrates diversity.  We depend on a large and diverse group of College Ambassadors to welcome prospective students from all backgrounds and narratives and are looking to hire more!
