Attention all music lovers... Listen up! Memphis Public Libraries now offer customers a
new music listening station in the History Department of the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Avenue, 4th floor). Completely free of charge, customers can access more than 1,000 vinyl records, 900 CDs, and cassettes for their listening pleasure. From gospel to jazz, rap to garage rock, and country to pop, it's all here and all by Memphis musicians!

Historian Eldon "Chip" Holliday catalogues new music into the History Department. "We have rare music that you'd have a hard time finding elsewhere, along with a knowledgeable staff who can help to provide the history behind it," Holliday commented. "The sheer volume of Memphis music we house is amazing, and no cash or even a Library card is needed for customers to access it. We just want to preserve as much Memphis music as possible for as long as possible," he explained.

The music collection is a non-circulating, ever-expanding archive of local music recorded on Memphis labels, created by Memphians or by someone living in the city at the time. Customers simply need to ask a librarian in Central Library's History Department to use the listening station.
