While in the community this month here is some of what we heard...

Update on Housing Levy proposal -
In general the public provided strong support for the Levy and the proposal’s priority to support the lowest income households. In response to community and stakeholder feedback, the final proposal included increased support for affordable housing that serves individuals and families who have experienced homelessness.
What We Heard in West Seattle

Approx. 30 community members met on Tuesday to talk through Housing Levy proposal.

Highlights:
  • Interest in seeing affordable housing throughout the city, near services and transit;
  • Need for affordable housing for growing senior population; and
  • Need to preserve units that are currently affordable in market-rate buildings.

    What We Heard in South Seattle

    Approx. 120 community members met on Thursday to talk through HALA and Housing Levy.

    Highlights:
    • Great need for affordable housing at lowest levels;
    • Need for more homeownership opportunities, transitioning from low income housing; and
    • More housing close to transit is a great help for workers

    What We Heard in Lake City

    Approx. 60 community members met on a Saturday to talk HALA.


    Highlights:
    • Need for bold action on affordable housing;
    • Concern about reliance on property taxes and rising costs; and
    • Strong interest in requiring new development to pay for affordable housing.
         
      What We Heard in Capitol Hill
      Approx. 60 community members met on Thursday to talk HALA, Housing Levy and Renter's Rights.

      Highlights:
      • Need more support for renters that are facing discrimination and displacement;
      • Housing Levy needs strong accountability; and
      • Middle income residents with high student debts means trouble renting at market levels.

      Upcoming Events
      Join us at one of our upcoming meetings.  We will be talking about all things HALA around the city in the coming months.

      Conversations in February took us to Belltown, Capitol Hill, International District, Lake City, Lakewood/Seward Park, New Holly and West Seattle.
