St. Patrick's Day - March 17th
A MESSAGE FROM
 JEFF BLUBAUGH

St. Patrick's Day was originally associated with the color blue.  A blue so specific it was titled "St. Patrick Blue".  It eventually became green probably due to Ireland also being named the Emerald Isle and that Patrick used a shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. But the color blue was one of the most expensive colors to obtain prior to the 20th century, so that could have had some sway.
The story of St. Patrick is so endearing that the entire world seems to have adopted March 17th as a day for feasting, drinking, and of course wearing "the green" that is now symbolic of a day to rejoice and to unify with Ireland.  And lets face it...what a great way to kick off the Spring season not to mention Spring Break and MARCH MADNESS!
The annual St. Patrick's Day parade will be on Saturday, March 12th, high noon in Delano on Douglas Ave.
And since that will be the 2nd Saturday of March, there will be plenty of "2nd Saturday" sales in Delano, Old Town, and along the Douglas Design District all the way to Oliver St.  Hope to see you out and about that Saturday!
Quickly I want to thank those that replied to the last newsletter about what they would like to see change, or stay the same, in the parks.  There were wonderful comments and great ideas that were shared and I plan to start implementing some of these ideas in the near future.  Of course budget and Park Board approvals are needed, but I plan to persevere and help create the best parks in Wichita! Please continue to share your thoughts with me at [email protected]
Stay safe and remember to designate a non-drinking driver in case you have too many green beers.

SUMMERTIME LAWN
Summertime Lawn is a family owned business that provides mowing, light landscaping, and yard cleanups. They prefer to use Hustler mowers that are manufactured by Excel Industries in Hesston, KS.  Yes, the same company that had the recent tragedy initiated by an employee who went on a shooting rampage that randomly killed 3 and wounded more than a dozen co-workers. The photo on the left was taken to honor Hesston and Excel Industries. Mr. Gonzales states "our hearts and prayers go out to the families and relatives" of these victims.

CLEAN SLATE DAY - March 4th

Is your criminal past holding you back? Kansas law allows for people who have been convicted of some criminal offenses and completed all the requirements of their sentence to have their crime expunged.  If a crime has been expunged, a person can honestly answer "No" when asked if he or she has been convicted of a crime (under most circumstances). If you or someone you know is struggling to move beyond an old criminal case, expungement may be a good option.

MARCH ON....

We can march to music, march in a parade, march toward battle, be on the march and make progress, and even steal a march to gain an advantage.  But whichever you choose, just keep marching.  Marching is forward movement that can advance us, and of course is great exercise that you can perform while marching in place.  So while watching March Madness this month, stand up every 20 - 30 minutes and march for a few minutes.  Even better, stand up and march during every commercial.  (Just don't march to the kitchen each time)  As for me, I just march to the beat of that "different" drummer because I generally march while I brush my teeth.
