Young recognized as 'exceptional' science teacher
Carrollton Junior High School STEM teacher Luke Young will be honored for his work as a middle school science teacher later this month at a special awards presentation at the University of West Georgia.

Mr. Young has been selected to receive the Annice Whatley Award for Excellence in Middle School Science Instruction, a scholarship presented by the College of Education. The $1,000 award was established to "recognize an exceptional middle school science teacher," according to the UWG notification letter.

"It is no surprise Mr. Young is being honored in this way," said Dr. Todd Simpson, CJHS principal. "He has done an incredible job building momentum in the field of STEM and his enthusiasm for it resonates with the students. We are very proud of him and pleased his work is being recognized."

Mr. Young will attend the College of Education Academic Assembly March 30. The ceremony will honor graduate students whose classroom performances have been recognized as particularly outstanding. Following the ceremony, a donor reception will be held for the students to meet benefactors of the various scholarships presented.

Mr. Young has been with Carrollton City Schools since 2005 and has been the seventh and eighth grade STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) teacher since 2014. Congratulations to him on receiving this special honor!
Brooks to be named
new CHS principal

Carrollton City Schools superintendent-elect, Dr. Mark Albertus, has named his successor as principal of Carrollton High School - long-time Carrollton teacher, assistant principal and athletic director David Brooks.

"David Brooks is a strong leader," said Dr. Albertus. "He has great judgment and gets things done. I have had the privilege of working with Mr. Brooks for several years. I have gotten to see his interaction with students, faculty and the community first hand. He will be able to pick right up and lead this school from Day One." More

Beta offers service  hours
for LFL donated books
Junior Beta Club members have a new service opportunity for those who still need to log hours for this semester.

The Little Free Library provides book lovers in our community an opportunity to exchange books - you can pick up a book and drop off a book all around Carrollton; CJHS even has a donation "bus" on campus.

In order to keep the "bus" filled, the LFL needs donations - Junior Betas will receive one service hour credit for each book donated. Books are needed for all ages so any donation will be appreciated. Donation boxes are located in Ms. Driver's classroom.

Science students visit
CHS to learn about STEM

Seventh grade students who are seeking STEM certification, along with their science teachers, visited the Carrollton High School media center to provide an opportunity for the students to view CHS science fair projects.

CHS science teacher Mrs. Jennifer Sewell provided invaluable insight for the students on what they can expect once they reach high school. The students loved the hands-on projects and were impressed by the diversity of the projects.

This is another example of the collaborative efforts put forth by CJHS and CHS; one that positively impacted STEM students!
