Alamo Colleges, Rackspace Collaborate for $1,386,387
TWC Job Training Grant  
Richie Valadez, Director Global Talent Development, Rackspace; Ruth R. Hughs, TWC Commissioner for Employers; and Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Bruce Leslie announce a $1,386,387 grant to train 1,000 workers for Rackspace.



Alamo Colleges is collaborating with Rackspace to provide customized training for new and incumbent employees using a $1,386,387 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). This grant will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions Alamo, Capital Area and Tarrant County areas. Austin Community College and Tarrant County College will provide support for some portions of the training for Rackspace employees in Austin and Grapevine.

The grant is providing custom training to 1,000 new and incumbent workers to provide hosting, programming and technology instruction in Linux/Apache, Windows, Cisco, Red Hat, network security and Microsoft Server. Those trained will include information technology professionals and human resource and accounting personnel. Upon completion of training, the workers will have the necessary skills and training for IT jobs that offer an average hourly wage of $37.27, and some trainees may be eligible for advanced industry certifications.

Alamo Colleges - Northwest Vista College and San Antonio College Recognized with Theatre Awards
Alamo Colleges - Northwest Vista College students perform in
"Don't Be Absurd," which won a number of Globe awards.


Alamo Colleges - Northwest Vista College (NVC) brought home 12 Globe awards for excellence in theater production 2014-2015 from the Alamo Theatre Arts Council (ATAC). The Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College (SAC) Department of Fine Arts also took home a pair of Globe awards.

In addition, Tim Hedgepeth won for his direction of "End of the Rainbow" at The Playhouse. Drama adjunct Jonathan Boyd won for Leading Actor in "Romeo Chang" at The Overtime. 

For SAC, s tudent Eric Alvarado was named Best Lead Actor for his role in "The 25 th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," while theatre professor Ronald Watson earned Best Scene Design for "Bach at Leipzig." Additionally, five SAC theatre students helped open the Globe Awards Gala by performing in the opening number. The Globe Awards is an annual celebration of theatre in San Antonio, put on by ATAC.

Alamo Colleges - Palo Alto College, Southwest ISD Expand Dual Credit

Alamo Colleges - Palo Alto College announced an elevated dual credit partnership with Southwest ISD on Thursday, October 29, at Southwest High School. In the partnership, Southwest High School students will be able to take dual credit courses beginning in their freshman year of high school and earn up to 42 hours of college credit to apply toward an associate or bachelor's degree. 

Southwest High School is the first dual credit partner with Palo Alto College to expand to freshmen, joining five Early College High School partners providing early access to college education to all levels in high school. Dr. Bruce Leslie, chancellor of the Alamo Colleges, and Dr. Mike Flores, president of Palo Alto College, joined Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft, superintendent of Southwest ISD, in welcoming students in the new partnership. They were joined by Dr. Yvonne Katz, vice chair of the Alamo Colleges' Board of Trustees.
