MEASURE roadmap presentation
The SPIRE4-2014 MEASURE project has developed a  Roadmap towards a harmonised, cross-sectorial sustainability assessment in European process industries specifically for the SPIRE community  to support the implementation of sustainability assessment and decision guidance in the innovation process. Its official presentation took place on 2 March 2016 in Berlin.

Among other interesting topics, participants learned how a harmonised reporting concerning the SPIRE sustainability and resource efficiency goals can be realized. Based on the open issues and R&D needs revealed by the analysis, the Roadmap represents a vision for development of life cycle-based sustainability assessment in the European process industries and summarizes the experience and views of a large number of stakeholders from industry, association, governmental authorities, academia and consultancies, as well as from recent academic and industrial literature.
The Roadmap and background documents will be available online as of 1st of April 2016.

STYLE IN ITS YEAR 1
STYLE is a collaborative two-year SPIRE project aiming to advise the process sectors on the usage of sustainability tools for evaluating products and processes. Specifically, STYLE is targeting scenarios where:  "A project team is evaluating options for a resource or energy improvement for their process or product and they need a pragmatic tool to check the broader sustainability implications of each technological solution"

At the start of the project, a review of existing sustainability evaluation tools was conducted, with the aim of being able to recommended a 'toolbox' of ideal tools suitable for the 'STYLE scenario'. Following preliminary evaluations of a range of tools, carried out by Tata Steel, Solvay and Veolia, the project team is moving more towards an 'ideal toolbox specification'. This specification will have value for industrialists developing in-house tools; commercial organisations developing tools to market to industry; academics who could provide novel solutions; and funding bodies looking to finance projects to fill identified gaps that cannot be met by commercial organisations or industrialists alone.

STYLE has been working alongside the sister MEASURE and SAMT projects, which were also funded under the 2014 SPIRE4 call, ensuring that recommendations to the process sectors and the European Commission are coordinated and consistent.
The three SPIRE4 projects will present final recommendations and a harmonised roadmap at a further stakeholder event in October 2016.
