 The weekend's record high temperatures aside, the trees know what time of year it is and are putting on their best fall foliage for a spectacular show in yellow, orange and red. If you haven't taken a walk along one of Golden's many trails in a while, now is a gorgeous time to do so!
We've seen our last Farmer's Market for 2015 and the other fun summer events that fill Golden streets and parks have also said so long until next year, but there's always something to do in our lovely city no matter the season. So read on, e

Heritage Road Update
Paving on Heritage Road will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, and striping on Thursday. The road will open on Friday.
Additional landscaping will be provided at Eagleridge traffic calming section this week.

US 6 & 19th Street Interchange project
The Final Office Review (FOR) meeting happens today when CDOT offers City staff final comments on the interchange plan. Those comments will be incorporated into the final project design, which should be complete on Nov. 6 and ready to go out to bid. Staff then hopes to have the final costs of the project available in early December to bring to City Council.
In the meantime, utility relocations that are required for the project regardless of the final design have begun and will continue through the fall.

2015 Concrete Replacement project
The intersection of 13th and Washington will be repaired and replaced in mid-October. The disruption should last 2-3 weeks.A letter explaining the project and traffic control will be delivered to merchants this week.

2015 Utility Replacement
Water main replacement continues at Peery Parkway and Peery Dr. Progress has been slow due to required rock excavation. Sewer CIPP installation in Mt. Zion Dr. and Iowa St. areas continues.

Stormwater Work
 This week crews begin mowing channels, and
continue maintenance operations in Tucker Gulch.
Crews continue to work on Gabions in Tucker Gulch, repairing damage caused by the floods of 2013. To the right is a second row gabion being worked on now. Two additional rows will soon be added.

West Fork Kenney Run Drainage Improvements
This week Naranjo Civil is relocating the sewer main on 23rd St. from Jackson to the west side of Kenney Run. Also, the tree removal contractor is working to remove trees downstream of 23rd St.

Corporate Circle School Traffic
All traffic control items have now been removed. In a few weeks there will be a meeting between Public Works, PD and the schools to discuss whether permanent improvements will be installed.

Gateway Village Development
The Gateway Village water tank and pump station are currently under construction. The partially constructed tank is visible from I-70 at the hogback and expected to be completed by mid-December. The tank will be approximately 30' tall and will have a storage capacity of 300,000 gallons.

Economic Development Commission Meeting
The Economic Development Commission will meet tonight at on October 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Public Works building at 1445 10th Street. At tonight's meeting, the following items will be considered:
- Review a task list from the September meeting.
- A report on GURA
- Prospect/Development Project Report
- Hear from the Community Marketing Committee

Parks & Recreation Board Study Session
The Parks & Recreation Board will meet tonight October 13 in a study session at 7 p.m. in the Golden Community Center.
There is no formal agenda for this meeting but the topic of discussion will be feedback on a Downtown Parking memo previously provided to the Board from the Community and Economic Development Department.

Jeffco Innovators' Workshop
 Join the Innovators' Workshop on October 14 at 6:30 p.m. for a lively discussion led by John R. (Grizz) Deal about opportunities in data mining and analysis - what it means to every business owner and marketer today.

City Council Study Session
The Golden City Council will meet on October 15 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers in study session. At the upcoming meeting, City Council will discuss the following:
- Recommendations for the 2016 Operating Budget.
- The Dogs Off Leash policy.
- A review of the Community Betterment Grant Program.
Please note that as a study session, no decisions will be made at this meeting, and it will not be open for public comment, although the public is welcome to attend.

Boo! Who's Been Watching Your Garden?
What did the earliest Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and Japanese have in common about their gardens and fields? They all made and used scarecrows to protect their plants!
Learn about the fascinating history of scarecrows with history interpreter Priscilla Marshall.
Come to the Clear Creek History Park from 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 18 and make your own to take home to stand guard during the harvest and Halloween season.
Purchase a $15 scarecrow kit for each scarecrow you would like to make (minimum 1 per group).
Each participant will then purchase a ticket: Members $5; non-members $7. Ages 6 and up are welcome when accompanied by a paid participating adult.
Optional extras you might bring for your scarecrow to wear: hat, vest, old gloves, bandana, suspenders, and boots.
Clear Creek History Park is located is near the downtown area at 11th and Arapahoe Streets in Golden.

DDA Meeting
The Downtown Development Authority will meet on October 19 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is a special district entity authorized and directed by state statute to benefit the economic and community vitality of the downtown area. The DDA will also be authorized to provide tax increment economic incentives to eligible redevelopment projects, much like GURA was able to do in the past.
The DDA meets on the third Monday of each month (unless otherwise noted on the calendar) at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.

Golden Library Geocaching 101
What is geocaching? It's an outdoor treasure hunting activity, using GPS (Global Positioning System) to find hidden containers filled with a logbook and other small items.
Join geocacher Phyllis McGuire at the Golden Library, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 as she explains and presents slides of geocaching as well as earthcaching, a type of geocaching that takes you to unique geological features of the earth.

Golden moves from "Active" to "Fit" status in Colorado wellness campaign
Golden has achieved another milestone in the
LiveWell Colorado HEAL Cities & Towns Campaign. By adopting new policies in three of the Campaign's focus areas aimed at improving access to healthy eating and active living (HEAL), Golden has increased its status in the Campaign from "Active" to "Fit".
The Campaign recognizes four levels of participation for HEAL Cities & Towns: Eager, Active, Fit, and Elite. As municipalities implement additional HEAL policies, they reach higher stages of recognition within the Campaign. The City of Golden started the campaign at the "Active" level, which is designated for those cities or towns that have at least one healthy eating and active living policy on their books before joining the Campaign. Now, by adopting one new policy in each of the Campaign's policy areas-Active Community, Healthy Food Access and Healthy Workplace-Golden has moved up to the "Fit" level.
Since joining the HEAL Cities & Towns Campaign in April of 2014, the City has made investments in trails, sidewalks, playgrounds, and an intersection rebuild to better accommodate bikes and pedestrians, all of which increase access to active living for residents. This means Golden now has a new policy or investment in each of the three policy categories and have moved from "Active" to "Fit.

Candidates running for November elections
 The City of Golden will hold general elections on November 3 this year, and Golden voters will elect the positions of Mayor and Councilors for District One and District Two.
