TRAINING AGENDA:
We will introduce the range, timing and prevalence of perinatal emotional complications; who is at risk; impacts on the mother, infant and family;
and the signs and symptoms of emotional complications in pregnancy and postpartum, while encouraging discussion about scope of practice, boundaries, and self-care.
Next we will introduce an accessible 2-question screening tool and examples of language to use with clients to identify and follow up on concerns about emotional complications.
Participants will break out into small groups to practice utilizing the screening tool and to develop their own language to talk about perinatal emotional complications within their work.
We will also present 3 case studies and facilitate small group discussions of the cases presented, which will include a birth trauma experience, postpartum home visit, and breastfeeding group scenario to allow the participants to integrate the information presented throughout the training.
The training will conclude with sharing Massachusetts-based resources that exist and a discussion about how to develop your own community-based network of resources and referrals.
