Canine Osteoarthritis - Case Study: Dottie

In humans, geriatric physical therapy covers a wide array of  issues experienced through normal adult aging.  Canine aging is much the same as in humans.  Many conditions affect dogs as they age and include but are not limited to: arthritis, osteoporosis, cancer, hip and joint replacement, balance disorders, incontinence and more.

Geriatric physical therapy helps by developing a specialized program to help restore mobility, reduce pain, increase fitness levels and more.

Whether it's the dog days of summer or the cold, dark depths of winter, a dip in the pool can buoy both bodies and spirits! We all know that recreational swimming is great exercise for dogs. It is also a fun and social activity for dogs and owners. Not only that, it allows for a controlled environment that is beneficial both physically and physiologically.

For anyone who has been to a local lake or pond in the late summer months, it is not a surprise that an indoor swimming pool is a cleaner environment. Lakes and ponds can spread bacteria, giardia and other undesirables to your dog. Plus there's no mud to track back to your car, house and your shoes!

Meet Dr. Wynn
Fetching More Out of Life

Dr. Wynn grew up in the hot state of Arizona. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona, where she majored in both human physiology and veterinary science. While in college, Dr. Wynn worked as a veterinary technician at a busy veterinary practice. She also worked at the Arizona Cancer Center, performing research in ovarian and prostate cancer. Dr. Wynn then moved to Fort Collins, CO, to pursue veterinary school at Colorado State University.  While in veterinary school, she started a janitorial business cleaning medical offices to pay for her schooling. She also helped manage her husband's valet parking business. During her summer break, she spent time in South Africa working as a technician in wildlife anesthesia. She has worked on a variety of species from lions to small birds. Toward the end of veterinary school, Dr. Wynn developed an interest in complimentary medicine.  As a result, she earned her certification in medical acupuncture through CVMA.  She also received additional training in canine medical massage. Dr. Wynn received her rehabilitation certification through Canine Rehabilitation Institute and loves practicing rehabilitation because it allows her the opportunity to form a strong bond with her patients and owners. In her free time, Dr. Wynn travels and hikes with her husband and two dogs. She also loves to cuddle with her bunny and two cats. Most recently, when she's not working, Dr. Wynn is busy with her newest family member, baby Aiden.
