Reflecting on a great year
It never ceases to amaze me-- the amount of support that YVSC receives from our community. YOU are the foundation of what makes our programs successful! Looking back on the year's accomplishments always brings that into perspective for me.
Like most non profits, we couldn't do this without our volunteers, our community, and our donors--individuals, government, businesses, and private foundations. As we enter into the year-end "giving season", I urge you to learn more about what YVSC does and how our work protects the incredible natural environment and community that surround us all. What we do, we do for these two reasons. We hope that you'll join us in that mission.
Happy fall!

ENERGY AUDITS ARE NOW FREE!
Free home energy assessments are now available to customers with Atmos and YVEA utilities. The audits are available through YVSC partner programs Energy Smart Colorado and Cen$ible Energy. The assessment would otherwise cost $350, but through rebates, supported by the City of Steamboat Springs, YVEA, and Atmos, homeowners can have their homes assessed for energy efficiency at no cost. They'll also receive a free "quick-fix" kit valued at $50 for energy saving measures such as a hot water heater blanket and pipe wrap.

Talking Green Greenhouse Gas Legacy of Waste
Tuesday, October 27 5:30 - 7:00pm
Art Depot
What is the greenhouse gas legacy of the food you buy in the grocery store, the drinks you order at the bar, the meal served at your favorite restaurant or its leftovers, and the various recycling
streams
we generate? There is a growing awareness that the sustainability of the U.S. food system is not just a function of what we eat but how our foods are grown, and equally important, how we dispose of the waste. Mark Easter will present some of the latest findings regarding food production and greenhouse gases in an interactive, TED-Talk style, multimedia presentation.

A
nnual Recycling Drop Off Day
Way to go Routt County recyclers!
Once again, our community showed how much you care about our environment. 409 people loaded up their cars last Saturday to do the right thing with their hard-to-recycle materials--a record
participation for this annual event. Thank you for conserving these resources! Here's what you kept out of the landfill this year:
- 19,500 pounds of electronics
- 1857 pounds of household hazards waste
- 795 gallons of paints
- 296 light bulbs
- 250 gallons of plastic bags
- 128 skis
- 87 bike tires and tubes
- 37 vehicle batteries
And over $1400 was raised, showing just how highly our community values this event!
Since 2010, recycling just the electronics at this event has prevented the greenhouse gases equal to taking 100 cars off the road for a year.

Going for Zero in 2015
Our
Zero Waste program is our largest and most visible program. The Zero Waste mission is always to divert the most resources possible from the landfill. The program is far reaching, as it impacts residents and visitors from around the world.
Here are our 2015 statistics:
Total compost collected: 7,017 gallons
Total recycling collected: 9,069 gallons
Total events: 55, 17 new events for 2015
Total attendees at events: 46,000!
Total volunteers: 55 volunteers, 275 total hours
Total Staff time: 3 staff, 2 interns, 720 hours
And our team of 120-gallon Water Monsters were at 17 events this year, replacing over 14,400 single-use plastic water bottles.
Zero Waste takes a lot of staff time and volunteer coordination. We couldn't do this program without our sponsors, thank you:
