University Status, New Name to Take Time
While NCNM has received approval to become a university, an extensive process to rebrand, submit legal filings and settle on a name will likely take several months, according to President David Schleich.

Although initially reported as the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM), Dr. Schleich said the name was part of the college's application to the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission, but does not reflect a final decision. An internal discussion on a possible new name is underway, with the Board of Directors to settle on a name at its November retreat.

Founded as the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1956, the school changed its name to the National College of Natural Medicine in 2006 to coincide with its 50th anniversary and to reflect curricular expansion, including classical Chinese medicine; and to allow for additional future offerings. NCNM celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2016.
