Breaking Barriers with Bilingual TV:
The AlabamaTV Story

Meet the staff of Alabama's first television program broadcast in both Spanish and English. Launched in 2014, AlabamaTV provides critical information to and about members of the central Alabama Latino communities while acquainting English-speaking viewers with the experiences of those who have recently immigrated to the United States.

The show's creator tells the story behind this innovative broadcast on WVUA-TV and invites UA students to get involved.

Diversity in Leadership Panel

Th panel will include: Executive Director of Teach for America - Alabama, Vice President of Teach For America, Director of Diversity and Engagement at Google, Executive Director from EY, Professor in Race and Genders studies, and two students that have held various leadership roles around campuses, both at Alabama and abroad.

Global Cafe: How to Talk with Your Child's Teacher

Everyone with an interest in schools is invited to meet local educators at Global Cafe.  Professionals who work with children’s education will talk about their schools and the children they serve.  There will be an opportunity for questions and conversation. Free and open to the public.

Students and faculty connect with community at Global Cafe.  People share traditions and culture, learn about local opportunities, discover common experiences, and meet new friends.  Travelers strengthen their language skills and explore international customs.  We welcome people from across our community.

At this interactive event, the place where you sit and the meal that you eat are determined by the luck of the draw -- just as in real life some of us are born into relative prosperity and others into poverty. The Hunger Banquet simulates hunger in the State of Alabama, which ranks 48th in food security. Speakers from Alabama Possible, Secret Meals, and the Alabama Food Bank will talk about how YOU can make a difference in the lives of Alabamians.

International Spouse Group

The International Spouse Group (ISG) meets every Tuesday throughout the Fall 2015 semester from 9:30 to 11:30 am in the Global Cafe meeting space at the Center for Community Based Partnerships at 900 Anna Avenue. The ISG is specifically designed to provide interaction and support for the spouses of international scholars, students, faculty, and staff, as well as American spouses who are interested in making international friendships.

International Coffee Hour

Capstone International Coffee Hour is held on Fridays during fall and spring semesters from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM in Room 121 B.B. Comer Hall. Discover Diversity at UA Crossroads

The Crossroads Community Center is an initiative of the Division of Community Affairs. Crossroads provides leadership in cultural programming and intercultural education by:
  • building relationships across campus cultures through innovative programs and dialogue initiatives
