We welcomed two new partner families. Shalonda works as a CNA. She and her 11 year old daughter currently reside in Dagsboro. During the signing ceremony, we pledged to do all we can to help her fulfill the requirements for Habitat homeownership which include completing the Partner Family curriculum, saving for closing costs, and putting in hundreds of hours of sweat equity. Congratulations, Shalonda! We look forward to working with you.

The Governor's Commission on Community and Volunteer Service and the State Office of Volunteerism hosted AmeriCorps members from the entire State of DE at the Life After AmeriCorps Conference held in New Castle, DE. Attendees from the various AmeriCorps programs such as VISTA, Teach for America, Senior Corps, and Public Allies were able to exchange information about the programs and services where they serve, the career and education opportunities that await them after their term(s) of service, and post-service travel opportunities.

Miss Delaware, Brooke Mitchell, who chose to highlight volunteerism as her platform, will be serving with AmeriCorps at Sussex County Habitat after her reign is over in June. Executive Director,
Kevin Gilmore, hosted a Career Panel Luncheon during which panel members shared the unique career paths they took after their AmeriCorps service. Two SCHFH AmeriCorps Alumni participated in the panel as well,
Kim Stockley of iStrategyLabs and
Tyler Fitzgerald of Capital One.

Students from Catholic University cleared Habitat lots on Kimmie Street in Georgetown and framed a Belle Avenue home in Laurel. Despite some weather challenges, the AmeriCorps team and Catholic University students - many who have served with us in the past - continued on with smiles and joy. . The 19th annual expo was
held at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes on April 9th and 10th, and again benefited Sussex County Habitat. There were
indoor and outdoor exhibitors, promotional gifts and prizes, and food vendor trucks including Taco Reho and Po' Boys Cajun and Creole to Geaux. Representatives from many of the area's top realtors, builders, developers, financial institutions, and home service firms were present to showcase an array of home products and services. A portion of the proceeds from the event were donated to help Habitat continue its mission to build homes, communities, and hope. Special thanks also to the Sussex County Habitat ReStore Team for their coordination efforts and participation in this event.

A Touch of Italy
is proudly building a home in Ellendale's Ingram Village subdivision. Staff from the local restaurant group's Rehoboth Beach and Lewes locations volunteered to help take the home from framing through drywall, giving Sussex County Habitat significant time and resources. Habitat staff, AmeriCorps members, and other volunteers had previously laid the foundation for this home and will finish the house after
A Touch of Italy's
term of service is complete. We appreciate everyone who is helping to make this special build happen for our future homeowner, Kashanna.

Dogfish Head! They g
enerously closed their brewery and restaurants for the day so that their 256 employees could volunteer at the
7th Annual Benevolence Day on April 11. This year they formed five teams to build with Habitat in the Ingram Village subdivision in Ellendale and helped to kick-off National Volunteer Week.
Under Habitat and AmeriCorps leadership, Dogfish Head volunteers completed roof and wall sheathing and began blue boarding on a home that is also being worked on by
A Touch of Italy volunteers. Two homes that already had their foundations ready to go were framed and sheathed, making them ready for roof trusses. Volunteers framed two additional homes. The frames were stored by AmeriCorps until the houses' foundations are complete. The teams also each built a shed to be placed on each of the five home sites.
Great job, Dogfish Head! You made a huge difference for five future Habitat homeowners and we so appreciate it!

|
Terry High is a fairly recent addition to the SCHFH "Regulars" Construction Team. Although she hasn't served the 10-20 years that many members of that team have, she has been a steady presence on SCHFH build sites.
Terry stepped up and accepted site leadership responsibility during this year's uniquely busy Collegiate Challenge season. Filling a much-needed spot on the build site and leading dozens of eager alternate spring break participants, Terry taught, lead, and inspired the next generation of Habitat volunteers.
Terry has also accepted site leadership for this year's Women Build project. If you haven't already met her, come out
April 30-May 7 and introduce yourself to a not-so-new volunteer who is taking SCHFH to the next level by accepting new site leadership challenges.
