Impact Bulletin: Spring Edition

ANNOUNCEMENTS

CWEE strives to mitigate the cliff effect and increase employment retention by providing incentive-based retention programming to our participants through Steps to Success
This program helps individuals during their transition off of public assistance, offsetting some of the dramatic decreases in income that often accompany raises in wages, lessening the potential of welfare recidivism.

As mentioned in Laurie's Letter, CWEE has helped place people in more than 330 quality positions since July 2015, 62% of which are full-time.
The average wage is $10.54, which is $2.23 above Colorado's minimum wage.

In other testing news, the GED Testing Services recommended a recalibration of the GED test passing score from 150 to 145 for all test subjects.
This was wonderful news for several of our past students who learned that they were now test-passers and our current students who are now passing tests at a higher rate.

LETTER FROM LAURIE
Amazing Employment Environment for our participants!

"The headlines last week declared that Colorado's unemployment rate dipped to 2.9 percent in March, the lowest level since February 2001, reported by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.  This is fantastic news for our job seekers and we have observed the effects with our robust outcomes including 330 quality jobs since July 2015 (62% full time).  This is a major shift from years past.  Our participants report that in this market they can be more particular in choosing the best job opportunity for their situation.

Another recent highlight is the Colorado Department of Education announced that it signed contracts with three vendors of the high school equivalency exams to provide Colorado residents seeking a high school diploma options that have not existed before. In the past, students were able to only access the GED® exam but will be able to choose from the GED®, HiSET and TASC exams in the next three to six months.  CWEE along with other advocates requested the expansion of options with the CDE last fall to help the 1,000's of Coloradans as well as 100's of CWEE participants who have not been able to take and pass the testing since 2014.

This is very exciting news for CWEE students preparing for their high school equivalency exams that will soon be able to choose which testing option best suits their learning styles, life goals and testing format preferences.  We applaud the efforts of the CDE in making this shift."
