5th Sunday of Easter

Chili Cook-off to Support VBS on the Portico!

Scripture:  1 Timothy 6:2b-12

Sermon:
Ordinary: "Contentment"

Synopsis:  Contentment (with God-who God has created us to be, how God has gifted us to be, and where God has granted us to be at this moment in our journey) is not only the path to joy and fulfillment, it is also the path to growth as a disciple.  We most often think of ourselves as growing TOWARDS contentment (that is, discontent at the moment, but moving in the direction of contentment as we grow as disciples), but what if we begin with contentment, and it is out of the peace that comes with embracing who and where we are, that our growth is actually empowered?  How would that change everything?
UMW Program & Luncheon - April 23

Don't miss our next Peace United Methodist Women program and luncheon on Saturday, April 23.  We'll start at 11:45 a.m. in the sanctuary with a potluck luncheon.  Bring your favorite dish to share!

Our special guest speaker for the afternoon will be Anna Wilson,  Program Manager of Healthy Families Osceola ( The Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families - p art of Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children).  Healthy Families Florida is a free, voluntary program that provides families with useful information on parenting and child development.

UMW is a group of women organized for mission and participation in the global ministries of the church. Several small groups (or "circles") of UMW meet each month. Church-wide unit meetings are held quarterly for fellowship, fun and learning.  Come discover all the ways you can grow, connect, serve and develop lasting friendships at Peace!
Annual Chili Cook-off to Support VBS - April 24

Our Annual Chili Cook-off is Sunday, April 24th
Join us for this fun event to help raise money for Vacation Bible School.  There are a few ways to participate.  First, we still need contestants.  If you have the best chili recipe we'd like to taste it.  Let Julie Chatfield know if you want to join in the contest, and then bring in a pot of chili at 9:00 a.m. for the tasting between worship services this Sunday.

If you love to eat chili, bring in $$, sample, and then vote for your favorite by dropping money into the respective collection bins located in front of your choice.  You can vote for them all too, because all the proceeds benefit Vacation Bible School.

New "Hearts in Motion" Special Needs Ministry

Hearts in Motion Ministry Team
Hearts in Motion Special Needs Ministry  is in full gear.  Hearts in Motion began with a vision from Rick Westman, whose dream was to provide a loving and caring place at Peace for those with special needs.  After research and investigation we were ready to move forward, to "Just Do it".  Announcements were made, more interest was generated, and on Sunday, April 10th a team of 10, including four adults experienced in educating Special Needs, plus six avid volunteers, met and passionately agreed to support the cause.  Our first day was last Sunday, April 17th during the 9:30 service.  During the hour we enrolled three beautiful young adults with Special Needs.  Buddies were assigned and the group engaged in conversation, beginning the process of getting to know each other.  As the hour wrapped up, all expressed enthusiasm and are looking forward to this week's meeting.

Hearts in Motion offers two classrooms, one for three months to age 11 in classroom C and one for adults in classroom D.  We meet every Sunday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.  Early arrival is recommended.  Our first priority is to provide a safe and caring atmosphere.  There is a brief assessment and introduction where personal buddies will be assigned to each person.  Any helpful information can be shared and is encouraged at this introductory time. All classrooms are additionally monitored by an adult experienced in special needs.  Volunteers are background check screened, and also participate in continued training and team meetings.  Next, each class offers a flexible Bible lesson with sensory opportunities.  We believe that the Good News is for everyone.  Last, when possible, we hope to integrate these friends into the life of our church.  We believe that all have God given gifts for the edification of the body of Christ.  If you are interested in joining us contact Juli e Chatfield at  [email protected] or call the church office at  407-438-8947 .

ONE COMBINED "Celebrate the Family" Service - May 8

On Mother's Day, May 8th , we will be joining in our quarterly unified worship service (one service only that day combining all our mini-congregations) at 10:00 a.m., Celebrating the Family.  Of course, we'll be celebrating moms (please bring yours proudly!) but we are also going to take joy in all the families that bring meaning to our lives: not just genetically related families, but all the groups of people God has given us in our lives to share love and laughter and do good work together.

We'll begin the morning with a P ancake Breakfast at 9:00-9:30 a.m., and we have some special ways we want you to participate in the worship service.  We'd love to have as many pictures as possible of different "families" at Peace to which you belong (as well as the families with which you actually live).  Submit those pictures in the next couple of weeks by email to Julie Chatfield or the church office (emails listed elsewhere in the Connection).  Also, we'll be featuring worship music that morning from "families" as well. If you have a close-knit group that would like share an offering of song, let Jonathan Morris know.
Team Peace at the 2016 MS Citrus Tour - May 21/22

Support "Team Peace" in 2016!  We formed our church cycling team in 2009 to raise funds to help find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis.  There is no cure yet, but with continued funding for research, hope is on the horizon!
On May 21st & 22nd, our team members will be bicycling 50, 75 and 150 mile routes on the MS Citrus Tour.  Go to the Peace website to make an online donation to our Team, or give via cash or check at church (make checks out to Peace UMC with "Team Peace MS " on the memo line). Your support is greatly appreciated!

45s UPDATE:

As the school year comes to an end, so does our 45s season.  That means that if you are a rising 5th grader, it is highly encouraged that you participate in the Student/Parent preteen passage class.  During this class parents and students will be celebrating a milestone that is part of your child's pathway to spiritual maturity.  We will also look forward to what God will continue to do in the life of your child. This is truly a great bonding experience with your student that helps you gain a bigger understanding of your role as a parent and how to guide them on their spiritual journey. You only need to attend one of the two classes.  Our first one is THIS Sunday 4/24 at 12:30, the second opportunity is next Sunday 5/1 at 4:00.  Please sign up so I can plan accordingly.  This is only for 5th grade students and their parents.  However, the rest of the schedule is inclusive to both 4th and 5th graders.

April 24th:  Rising 5th Grade Class.  12:30-2:00

May 1st:  Stop Hunger Now.  Arrive at 1:45 for training.  Event goes from 1:45-3:45. We will have a regularly schedule 45s following the event.

May 1st: Rising 5th grade class. 4:00-5:30
May 8th:  Mother's Day- No 45s.
May 15th: End of the Year Party at Eddie's House.  Details soon.
May 22nd: Rising 5th grade Ceremony and last day of 45s for this school year.

We have encouraged the kids to find a Spiritual Mentor. This needs to be an adult mentor who follows God and who would be a good role model for them in their spiritual development.  It is better if this mentor is not family, however, grandparents or aunts and uncles are good choices.  Parents already have a special role in their student's life.  If you are needing assistance in helping your student find someone, or need more direction, please let us know.  We will be happy to assist you.

Women's Summer Study - "Lavender Springs"

This summer join us for a relaxing and spiritually nourishing spa-themed study where you'll be reminded of God's faithfulness and the power of connecting with other women. Through
three refreshing sessions, we will journey through the psalms of the Bible, studying the different kinds of songs, poems, and psalms that have inspired people for centuries.  Learn how the psalms help us share our feelings, disappointments, celebrations, and doubts with a truly great listener: God.

You'll leave with a fresh approach to prayer and stronger faith!  Mark your calendars now for these three special nights - June 17th, July 15th and August 19th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Contact the Church Office to RSVP.
