Board Member Spotlight
Josh Reed - Lexington Progress

Q: What is your area of expertise?

A: Photography, graphic design.
Also, before my work at The Lexington Progress, I was employed as a police officer at the Gallatin TN Police Dept. and the Henderson Co. Sheriffs Dept. I am a 2004 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University (B.S. Criminal Justice Administration).

Q: Other Interest?

A: I enjoy spending time with family, going to the river, and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Vols  football!  I also enjoy volunteer work where I am very active in Rotary International. I am proud to have been a member of the Lexington Rotary club for the past 10 years. In January of 2015, I was elected to serve as Rotary District Governor for Tennessee for the year of 2017-18.

Q: Why did you join the Chamber?

A: I first started attending Chamber dinners when I was in the 8th grade. My father, Mike Reed, was a chamber board member at the time. I was always interested in the concept of business leaders working together to improve the community. I continued attending the Chamber dinners with my dad when I was in high school, and I even wrote a term paper regarding the 'Chamber's role in the community' for one of my marketing classes.

Q: Why do you serve on the Chamber Board?

A: I hope to be an advocate for our local businesses. I believe that when we shop locally, we not only support local jobs but many other aspects of the community. I have observed over the years that the businesses in Henderson County are VERY generous in giving back to the community, whether it's supporting a local non-profit organization or sponsoring our youth sports teams. Henderson County businesses need our support, both as a Chamber and as consumers, to continue their good work in the community.

Q: What do you feel is the Chamber's role in business here in Henderson County?

A: I believe that the role of the Chamber of Commerce in our community is to bring various local leaders together to share information and resources with the goal of creating an economic environment that is conducive to the success of all local businesses. I also believe that this cooperation is needed to recruit industry, maintain a first class education system, and ensure the safety of our residents and visitors.

I am proud to call Henderson County home, and I look forward to watching our community's continued success!

Ace Hardware - Cindi Williams

Q: What is your area of expertise

A: I enjoy helping folks solve their problems as quickly and cost efficient as possible. Others, how to have fun with the project they are investing in.

Q: Other Interest

A:  We enjoy traveling, hiking, flying, walking our golden retriever Jack.

Q: Why did you join the Chamber?

A: The Chamber has the opportunity to see trends developing and keep us informed to stay ahead of the curve.

Q: Why do you serve on the Chamber Board?

A: I served on the board to help me see the big picture, not just my little area on First Street.  We all need to plug in and be involved.

Q: What do you feel is the Chamber's role in business here in Henderson County?

A:The Chamber is such a vital member of our community by helping us focus on the commerce, health care, education, industry. In other words all facets of our town and county.

Henderson County Trivia

Last weeks trivia question was "What was the name of the teacher that taught for 54 years at the Doe Creek School House in Scotts Hill, TN?" Congratulations to Linda Lipscomb for answering correctly. Elmer Duck was one of the longer tenures in Tennessee history.

Useful Tips for Small Business Owners/Managers
Assess Your Operations On A Regular Basis

Fine tuning an already successful operation will add more dollars to the revenues but discovering problems that may exist, which are repairable before major damage may occur, will certainly be worth the time and expense to a business owner. Even though red flags may have been appearing to the owner regarding small problems, the lack of action may tend to cause large problems that, in some cases, may not be reversible, even if corrective measures are taken. Suggested items for consideration should be:

- How important is advertising in maintaining our market    position?
- Is the advertising cost effective?

If you would like more information about this topic or to discuss your business needs, a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL visit with Ron Acree, Director of the TN Small Business Development Center, (JSCC), may be helpful. Contact the Chamber office at (731)968-2126 to schedule an appointment during the date of his monthly visit there. This business counseling is offered as an additional service of YOUR Chamber of Commerce.
