HUMOR COLUMN
More Jokes from Bob...

Our church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else. Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person's share of the work.
Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach, or a meeting to attend, one name was on everyone's list, "Let Someone Else do it." Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; "Someone Else can work with that group."
It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most generous givers in our church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference.
Someone Else was a wonderful person; sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did?
When you are asked to help this year, remember - we can't depend on Someone Else anymore.

For those who tire of excuses why people don't go to church, these are the reasons why I never wash. 1. I was forced to wash as a child.
2. People who wash are hypocrites - they think they're cleaner than others.
3. There are so many kinds of soap I could never decide which was right.
4. I used to wash, but it got boring.
5. I only wash on Christmas and Easter.
6. None of my friends wash.
7. I'll start washing when I'm older.
8. I really don't have the time.
9. The bathroom isn't warm enough.
10. People who make soap are only after your money.

"Why don't you go to church?" the Lutheran pastor asked the man with whom he had struck up a conversation in the grocery line. "All I have are my work clothes," he said, looking down at his dusty jeans, muddy boots and sweat-stained tee shirt. "I can't come to a Lutheran Church like this." The pastor then collected some nice clothes from the congregation and gave the man quite an upgrade in his wardrobe. Several weeks later the pastor bumped into him again. This time the man wore a pair of kakhi slacks, penny loafers and a buttondown shirt. "Why didn't I see you at church?" the pastor asked. "Well," the man began, "Last Sunday I showered, shaved and put on the clothes you gave me. I looked so dang good I decided to go to the Episcopal Church instead."

Trinity Tidbits--Week of Easter 5

TOTH logo
Think about what the resurrection of Jesus Christ means for you.  How have you been impacted and transformed by the Risen Christ? How has your life been changed by Jesus?

Another question: how has Trinity on the Hill helped you experience the love of Jesus?  In this Eastertide, I want to encourage you to find ways of sharing the love of Jesus and your experiences at Trinity on the Hill with people you know.  I'm not asking you to go door to door.  But I am asking you to stretch a little bit.  Pentecost is coming up on May 15th, and it will be a lively celebration.  In the spirit of Easter, like those disciples in the book of Acts, take a moment to share the love of Jesus and your experiences at Trinity on the Hill and invite someone to church.  You never know whose life might be changed.

Face to Face with God: The Incredible Richness of Eastern Spirituality
On Sunday, April 24, Steve Younger will continue the Adult Forum series Face to Face with God:  The Incredible Richness of Eastern Spirituality with a discussion of the book The Art of Prayer.  This work, which contains passages from saints and holy people of the Eastern Orthodox church, speaks with remarkable immediacy and intensity about how we can come closer to God.  Come and join us in Sherrill Hall at 9:30!
Saturday is TOTH Work Day for Habitat
TOTH Habitat Work Day Sat. April 23!

Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to come and help. Last Saturday, the walls were framed. Time for the next step!
Lunch is being provided by TOTH folks, so let us know if you are coming and want to share in the lunch so we get enough food.

Can You Help with the Playground?
Malcolm Carr is calling able bodied TOTH Folk to help build the the play structure for the TOTH playground! He says, "We will be working on it on the 30th and we need lots of man power. Also, I need an adult who is good at putting things together to lead a group to build the play structure." If you can help, let Malcolm know! (This is his Eagle Scout project!)
TOTH Gets $153.72 from Kroger!
In the first quarter of 2016 TOTH earned $153.72 in donations from Kroger/Smith's. This amount is directly related to how much folks from TOTH spend at Smith's. When you register your Smith's Fresh Values card to benefit TOTH, and use your Fresh Values card/tag each time you make a purchase, you are directing Kroger Corp charitable dollars to your church! This is in addition to the points you get as a shopper using that card! Based on how much we all buy at Smith's in this town, these community rewards can really add up! Call the church office or stop by to find out how to register your Fresh Values card or key tag for TOTH.
Next Choral Evensong is May 7th!!!
Our May Evensong will be a joint Northeast Deanery service--we will be joined by singers from other Deanery Churches and a guest organist, Gerald Wheeler, organist emeritus of Montreal Anglican Cathedral and former sub-organist of St. Paul's, London. Instead of the third Sunday in May, this will take place on Saturday 7 May at 5 pm. The schedule is as follows: 3:00 pm singers gather for afternoon tea in Kelly Hall; 3:20 pm singers rehearse all of the music in the Sanctuary; 5:00 pm Evensong service; 5:45 pm Reception and pot-luck in Kelly Hall (the earlier time is to allow members of more distant churches to get home at a reasonable hour). All are very welcome! If you would like to sing in this event, but are not an Evensong Choir member, please contact John Singleton for details of the rehearsals.

The next Smith's Bucks order will be on Tuesday May 3rd--due by Noon
TOTH's regular order to recharge Smith's Bucks cards is placed every other week, now. This is to try and increase our order and get a larger percentage donation for the church from Smith's. Smith's Bucks recharges this week totaled $2,500 of which TOTH got to keep $50. TOTH does much better with the more people who recharge their cards or who get one for themselves to recharge regularly.
The next deadlines for Smith's orders are the Tuesdays during the week after LANL paydays: May 3, 17 & 31, June 14 and 28... Mark your calendars! Thank you for your participation!
MORE Efficiency in Parish Life Event Planning with "Sign up Genius"!
Parish Life Ministry would like to streamline events and make the distribution of the work load less onerous. We are doing a few things - ensuring events go under the proper ministry so it doesn't all fall back on Parish Life; ensuring there is a coordinator for each event or it won't happen (someone needs to spear head events); online signups for volunteers or food.
We've had a few suggestions - girls night for a movie and Trinity Sunday. We're open to other suggestions (especially if you have a passion and want to lead it!) The pilot for online signups is for coffee hour on signupgenius.com. If you haven't received an invitation to join and would like to do so, let me know and I'll add you on.  Alternatively, you can go to www.signupgenius.com and look for my email address: [email protected].
If you want to be removed from that list, also let me know.  I'm hoping this makes sign ups easier for people to sign up and for those looking for volunteers.   Michelle Carr

LUKE'S GOSPEL and STORYTELLING
[for preaching and spiritual reflection].
The gospel of Luke has many singular characteristics not shared by the other accounts of the Good News to the Poor. It is the only one written in a relative period of peace [no overt persecution] and the issues of food, land, joy and justice, to mention a few-set the foundations. We will look at some of the upcoming gospels and some basic foundations of storytelling-as practiced by Jesus and how we can weave these issues and mysteries into our prayer and practice.

6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday May 10  & Thursday, May 12
LISTENING-AS A SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE AND PRAYER
Do you hear what I hear? What is the difference and connection between hearing and listening? Can we learn how to listen-with heart and soul, in situations of grief, pain, violence, stress and fear? Who and what are we listening too-or are we deaf to much in our lives? We will use stories and techniques-spiritual practices to learn how to be disciples of the Word-in response to Jesus' probing-All of you who have ears to hear: Listen!
