"Beyond The Rainbow: More Than Single Issue Lives" Artists of Color Keynote Panel

Weds, April 20th I 6-8pm

This is the highlight of Out and Proud Week - a panel of artists of color speaking about their experiences.

One panelist is Angelica Becerra, a pansexual Chicana artivist who focuses on painting Chicana women role models and believes in art as self care. Born and raised in Jalisco, Mexico until the age of ten, and thereafter as an immigrant in the city of Los Angeles, this bicultural upbringing has deeply influenced her interests. Another is Amir Rabiyah, a queer, trans, mixed race, disabled poet and educator living in San Diego, who does spoken word and writes. Their work has been published in various journals and anthologies. Check out their work here.

Mar Pascual is a Filipinx, non-binary, queer, traumatized, fat, femme inter-disciplinary art maker who centers decolonization, gender non-conformity, intimacy, and mental illness. Check out their work here .

	Trans Group Discussion Friday, 2-4pm \| Odd Weeks LGBT RC Conference Room The Trans Group is an intern-moderated gathering for transgender-identified individuals to have a designation place that is exclusively for trans people. It's a closed space. The new hours will allow for longer meetings, with more time to deeply delve into discussions or activities.
	Rainbow Graduation June 4th, 2016 \| 4-6pm Faculty Club Please join the UC San Diego LGBT community as we come together to honor the students who are graduating, our volunteers, our scholarship recipients and all who have impacted our community over the last year. The event serves as the formal induction of the graduates into the family of the UC San Diego LGBT Alumni. Although many people do get dressed up for the event, it tends to be a queer little get together, with all the trappings of our community, so be yourself. 	LGBT RC Open for Submissions! Interested in displaying your art at the LGBT Resource Center? We're open to any medium, from paintings, doodles, prints, poetry, stories, zines, comics, film, animation, music, to 3-D art pieces. 	F-Word Film Screening: Towelhead April 19th, 2016 \| 6-8:30pm UCSD Women's Center Stop by the Women's Center to watch Towelhead (2007), a film about a Lebanese-American teenage girl stuck in Texas as she navigates her way through sex, assault, racism, and more. 	Grad Student Demographic Surveys A collective of UCSD grads have created these surveys in an attempt to make your experiences, issues, ideas and needs heard by both fellow grads and the UCSD staff. Please help offer an understanding of the UCSD graduate experience and campus climate through your responses regarding issues you face on campus, specifically as it relates to racial and/or gender identity. 	Speak up, Make Change Workshop April 21st, 2016 \| 12-1:30pm AS Forum Room, 4th Floor PC Join the AS Women's Commission for a workshop presented by Sarah Mirk. Sarah Mirk, Bitch Media online editor and author of Sex From Scratch: Making Your Own Relationship Rules, will talk with students about politically engaged journalism, and discuss how to work with media to bring attention to the many ways that rape culture is perpetuated by mainstream media. 	Take Back the Night April 21st, 2106 \| 6:30-9pm PC Lawn (adjacent to Library Walk) Take Back the Night revolves around fighting sexual assault and all types of relationship violence by creating an open and brave space for survivors and their allies to speak out in order to empower themselves and the audience during an open mic portion of the event. The keynote speaker will be Sarah Mirk from Bitch Media whose activisms centers on the intersection of the media and rape culture. 	Kawasaki Disease: Is the answer blowin' in the wind? April 26th, 2016 \| 12pm UCSD Medical Education & Telemedicine Building A unique consortium of climate scientists, aerosol chemists, epidemiologists and medical doctors from Japan, the U.S., and Western Europe have joined together to tackle the mystery of Kawasaki disease, the most common cause of acquired heart disease in children. Speaker will be Jane C. Burns M.D., who specializes in this, and lunch will be provided to all attendees. 	Community Policing Town Hall April 28th, 2016 \| 5:00-8:30pm Porter's Pub The interactions between the police and the communities they serve great concern. The focus of this town hall will be to discuss how perceptions of both police and the policed on campus prevent the trust and communication which are necessary for a healthy space. Another aim of this event is to dedicate time and thought to envisioning what community policing should look like on campus. It is our hope that we will break out of the crisis-mode/complacency cycle towards a more proactive and effective community policing (CP) strategy. Our suggestions will be implemented in UCSD PD training and included in a report to the administration. Refreshments will be provided.
	Queer and Asian Conference - In(di)visible April 29th - May 1st, 2016 In(di)visible will be hosted at the University of California, Berkeley, from Friday April 29th to Sunday May 1st, 2016. Conference admission is open to any individual who expresses interest in the issues or the community; we encourage queer Asians and our allies from everywhere to come attend. Andra Jacques is the Study Abroad Coordinator at UCSD. She recruits for and advises students on education abroad opportunities with a special emphasis on UCSD Global Seminars and diversity outreach.

Andra graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with a B.A. in International Studies with a Peace Studies concentration. During her undergrad, she studied abroad in Siracusa, Sicily and has since traveled throughout Europe, Central America and Africa. Some of her most impactful experiences abroad have been performing on-site coordination for a faculty-led program for two summers in rural Akatsi, Ghana.

Young Women's Discussion Group Third Tuesday of each month 3909 Centre Street, San Diego, CA 92103 This group is aimed at young women ages 18-30. We will discuss issues relevant such as politics, academics, careers, relationships, social media, pop culture, activism and ways to be involved in the LGBT community. We hope to provide a safe and comfortable place to meet and share experiences as members of the LGBT community. It meets in The LGBT Center's library. This app is designed to help LGBTQ+ young people and allies find ideal roommates in their own community. This app is available in the App Store. Survey of LGBTQ Military Personnel A doctoral student at the University of Oklahoma is writing a dissertation on the identity process of LGBTQ people who have served in the U.S. military.
