New video explores transportation funding issues

The community depends on the 1,300 miles of roads maintained by Washington County. These roads allow travelers to get to work, school, home and countless other places.

Building, improving, and maintaining roads takes a lot of money. Where that money comes from and how is it allocated is complicated. "Transportation 101," a video produced by Washington County's Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT), explains where the money for transportation comes from and how it is used.

Open houses
THURSDAY: Open House for two projects on 175th Avenue
An open house for two projects on 175th Avenue will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Scholls Heights Elementary School, 16400 SW Loon Drive.
Project staff will be on hand to answer questions and solicit comments. No formal presentation is planned.
Improvements are needed at the four-way stop at 175th Avenue and Kemmer Road. The traffic flow at this intersection is inefficient, particularly at peak travel times. Improvements being considered include a roundabout or traffic signal. Construction is expected in 2018.
The two-lane portion of 175th Avenue from Scholls Ferry to 500 feet south of Alvord Lane will be improved to two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, street lighting, and improved drainage system. Construction is scheduled for 2017.
For more information, visit the project websites, or contact Kim Haughn, Public Information Officer, at 503-846-7822 or [email protected].

Elwert-Kruger intersection open house will be May 12
An open house for the Elwert-Kruger roads intersection will be 5-7 p.m. May 12 at  Middleton Elementary School, 23505 SW Old Highway 99W.
The event will provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions and provide comments. No formal presentation is planned.
The Elwert-Kruger intersection, located near Highway 99W, is congested and inefficient. The proposed preliminary design includes include realigning Kruger with Elwert and installing a roundabout located about 500 feet north of the existing intersection. The roundabout will improve traffic flow and safety and provide a gateway for traffic entering the Sherwood city limits.
Sidewalks, bicycle lanes, streetlights and landscaping improvements will be made to Elwert. Kruger will remain a local rural road with two travel lanes and shoulders. Improvements to the Highway 99W intersection are being considered in partnership with ODOT.
