Hosanna E-Update

We are called, gathered and sent to be a people living, loving

From Pastor Linda

Holy Hospitality!!

Be hospitable to one another without complaining.
~ 1Peter 4.9

Dear Friends~

Hospitality- the friendly reception and treatment of guests or strangers, the quality or disposition of receiving and treating guests and strangers in a warm, friendly, generous way. Hospitality Teams at Hosanna provide Sunday worship support; they greet, usher, serve communion, work in the kitchen and more. This Sunday we are hosting a Lunch & Learn about our Hospitality Teams. All are invited to come and learn- and consider joining a Sunday morning team- they work once a month.

Last week I was in Arizona, and while there I shopped at Whole Foods. (Yes, I know the jokes about "whole paycheck," but they have great options for prepared meals.) One of things I noticed about shopping there was that whenever I asked for help that employee would stop what they were doing and help me find what I was looking for. Then, as I checked out, the cashier would ask me if I found everything I needed. Both of these events happened every single time. This is "practiced radical hospitality." And it works. I felt good about my shopping experience and I actually looked forward to going back.

Hospitality has to do with how we treat each other, and most especially the stranger among us. It is so easy to come to church to see those who you haven't seen all week, to reconnect and enjoy each other's company. But the ministry of HOSPITALITY has to do with looking out for the stranger, for that person you don't know.

I've wondered at times what the Sunday morning experience would be like for visitors to worship if everyone at Hosanna practiced radical hospitality. To ask the stranger if they needed help, to greet them and invite them to sit with them, to ask if they have any questions.

Of course there is the fear of asking a long-time member if he or she is a first-time visitor- oops! But I think if I were that long time member, I'd still be grateful for the hospitable gesture and - guess what? - we'd know each other better after that.

Practiced, radical hospitality - I don't know if Whole Foods calls it that but I like the sound of it! Join us on Sunday for the Lunch & Learn- let's be a community that is known for their practiced, radical hospitality. CLICK HERE to RSVP.

See you on Sunday!        ~ Pastor Linda
