ECICOG was established in 1973 to promote regional cooperation and provide professional planning services to local governments in Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington Counties. ECICOG also provides solid waste planning services to Tama County and transportation planning services to Cedar County.

ECICOG Regional Clerks Workshop
The ECICOG Regional Clerks Workshop is next month on Wednesday, May 4th.
At the workshop attendees will learn about ECICOG's upcoming vanpool program and transit services, disaster preparedness from Hiawatha's Fire Chief and the Linn County Emergency Management Agency, the bidding process from the League of Cities, ALICE training from the Hiawatha Police Department, and will also receive legislative and health insurance updates.
Registration is only $15 and will get you credit hours, the workshop is an IMFOA Preferred Provider, as well as a lunch from BBQ This! Iowa's Creative Corridor RideConnect Update
Proposals for our region's vanpool program were due on April 1st. Based on the proposals ECICOG has received, we will be moving forward with the process, and the Vanpool Committee will be meeting in a few weeks to discuss the proposals. The selection of vendor should happen late April or early May, which will keep us on track for our timeline of launching the program as early as this October. Visit our Facebook page for updates over the next few months.
ECICOG is also working with the Iowa Department of Transportation on a statewide regional ridesharing program.
Iowa's Statewide Ridematching System will help you quickly and securely find viable commute options including carpool partners, cycling buddies, transit routes, and more. Once you're registered, you can log your commute route and find your personalized commute options by using your origin and destination addresses to match with nearby commuters with similar schedules. Login any time to change your route or find other options in your area. You can also find quick commute options for single trips.

Middle Cedar Watershed
ECICOG's Jennifer Fencl will be providing the newly formed Middle Cedar Watershed Management Authority with assistance and meeting facilitation over the next year.
ECICOG has also worked with two other watersheds, including the Clear Creek Watershed Coalition and the Indian Creek Watershed Management Authority.

ECICOG's Summer Reading Program
ECICOG has hired a new intern to head ECICOG's Summer Reading Program this summer. Trevor Templeman will start at ECICOG in mid-April to schedule program events this summer.
Starting May 16th, Trevor will work on developing the program to be delivered to libraries in Benton, Iowa, Jones and Tama Counties.

Solid Waste Comprehensive Plan
ECICOG recently updated the Regional Comprehensive Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan for 2016 to 2026. The plan was posted on ECICOG's website for review and public input in March, was approved at the last ECICOG Board of Directors Meeting, and was submitted recently to the Deparment of Natural Resources. We will soon be posting the finalized plan online at
