Helping to Improve Lung Cancer Care

KMA Vice President R. Brent Wright, MD, MMM, served on a task force that examined lung cancer across the continuum and offered recommendations on ways to improve current practices.

Lung cancer is one of our state's most intractable health challenges. Kentucky leads the nation in both incidence and mortality - with a mortality rate nearly 50 percent higher than the national average. The statewide task force of the Kentucky LEADS Collaborative made recommendations related to primary care and ways we could improve current practices, especially through the use of the new lung cancer screening recommendation.

The Economic Side

KMA advocacy efforts to eliminate barriers to patient care are paying off.  Particularly when it relates to medical coding.  Two of the five Managed Care Organizations - CareSource and Passport - will now reimburse both 99214 and 99215 without limitations.
