Beth Stein, B.S., M.A., has been presenting art history talks to small groups and museum audiences for the past ten years in both New Jersey and Massachusetts.  She and her husband moved to Cape Cod from New Jersey in May 2015.  Her "Picasso" talk will be on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 10:00-11:30 am.

Capturing Serenity & Solitude in the Studio

In this two day workshop, Bill will help students find the
subject and enhance the view for a winning composition.
Students will learn how to control tonality, improve their paint application technique, find the light source and
modify their images to create a mood. Bill will demonstrate each day helping students to take their paintings to the next level in the studio setting.

At the heart of each of Demers daily demonstrations the medium of watercolor will be explored as an ends unto itself as well as a sketching and study medium. This workshop will emphasize all of the fundamentals of good draftsmanship, design, composition, color, value and brush technique as Don and students tackle the plein air landscape.  The technical range of the watercolor from wet on wet to dry brush will be demonstrated and discussed daily.  He will show how to transform field sketches into successful studio paintings.  Those taking the workshop will be encouraged to learn and grow with Don's fun approach to instructing and painting. This workshop is
designed for the intermediate to advanced painter.

There will be lots of personal attention in this instructional and spirited three day workshop! Learn what it takes to make a painting that looks fresh and painterly. Observing directly from life you will learn how to capture the light and apply paint boldly. Each day will start with a demo and exercises. You will be guided through gestural oil sketches for composition and flow, value tonal sketches to establish the lights and darks, and color mixing exercises. Mr. Roffo has won countless national awards and is widely collected. Each morning will begin with Sergio discussing the aesthetic issues and techniques of art as he demonstrates and completes a field study, encouraging the fellow artists to observe. While I strongly encourage the students to observe my demonstration, they will have theoption to paint along side of me." Thinking Abstractly For Realistic Paintings

n this 4-day plein air workshop, you will learn that we paint most realistically when we are thinking abstractly. Learn how to reduce the charming scenes of Chatham to a collection of abstract shapes that, when put together correctly on the canvas, convey the impression of reality. Simplification, editing, re-designing the scene when necessary,  attention to light source, and painting quickly will be stressed. A limited palette will be used and much attention will be paid to value. The instructor will demo each morning for the group and will offer individual instruction to each student several times a day. By the final day, students will be able to insert convincing figures into their compositions  and approach any subject with confidence.

Although painting a person in watercolor may seem daunting, it is every bit as approachable as creating a still life or landscape. Ted Nuttall demonstrates the techniques, and instills the confidence to enjoy painting people. Ted will discuss the benefits of photographic reference, as well as how to interpret a photo in order to give life and energy to the subject. In Ted's daily demonstrations and presentations, he shares his personal approach to painting , introduces the work of other artists with the objective of inspiring enriched seeing and thinking skills. Significant time is allowed for one-on-one instruction. In an atmosphere that's both creative and supportive, Ted encourages, in each participant, a renewed enthusiasm for his or her art - regardless of their skill level.
