All over the Pacific Northwest flowers are blooming and bees and bugs are buzzing, and so is your neighborhood farmers market.That's right, it already time for another beautiful Saturday in Hollywood.
Returning to market for the season this Saturday are both Deep Roots Farm and their bright and crisp rhubarb, radishes and more. Also returning this week are Maryhill Fruit Company, and with them tender and sweet spring asparagus. We also celebrate the return of THINK Unique Gardens with their beautiful plant starts to keep your green thumb moving.
After a week off SweetHeart Bake Shop is back at market with shortcakes and more. HFM newcomers Little Handfuls Organic and Portland Juice Company will also be in attendance in case you missed them last week.
Another reminder that market is now open from 8am-1pm, so early birds rejoice and get your farmers market worm!
Last Saturday Bikes for Humanity performed free bicycle repairs and safety checks for over a dozen marketgoers! They will be back at the market again this Saturday, so make sure and bring your two-wheeler out for a tuneup! Starting this Saturday, they will be on an every-other-week schedule at the market.
Looking for some gardening tips? The
Master Gardeners will be at market this Saturday with an informational booth to help you with any gardening questions you might have. Also tabling this week is the
Native Plant Society of Oregon, with information about the upcoming
Native Plant Appreciation Week.
Plans are in the works to complete a street painting on our beloved Hancock Street sometime this summer. The project aims not only to beautify the farmers market, but also to unite the neighborhood community around the painting and to leave a reminder of the market on the street throughout the week. We are very excited about the project and hope that you will be too! The exact location and artwork to be painted are yet to be determined. If you are interested helping spread the word, recruit volunteers, draft a design, or complete the final painting email Sarah at [email protected]. Sarah will also have an informational table at the market on Saturday, April 16th!
Are you searching for new ideas on how to prepare your farmers market bounty? Or do you have a stack of long forgotten cooking magazines or cookbooks? Lucky for you our dear Ramona of Nourishment is piloting a HFM Cookbook & Recipe Community Library, and there you can both borrow a cookbook or recipe for finding inspiration, or you likewise you can leave some you may have for others to find.
