"Take a Seat" and
Support Scholarships at CMSRU!
One of the most popular and exciting elements of CMSRU's Promise Campaign is our "Take a Seat" initiative, in which donors can have their name, or the name of their choosing, placed on one of the chairs in our Auditorium. Seats are available on a first-come-first served basis. 100% OF THE MONEY RAISED WILL PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT TO CMSRU STUDENTS!

WHITE COAT NOTES INITIATIVE SUCCESSFUL:
THANK YOU FOR WRITING!

Thanks to the participation of CMSRU parents, friends, faculty, and staff, our first-ever White Coat Notes initiative was a huge success, with our 72 M1s receiving a total of 108 notes. As you can see, lots of students got two notes - one from a friend or family member, and one from a member of the CMSRU team. It was heartwarming to watch the students open and read their notes after the White Coat Ceremony, and there were many smiles, tears, and big hugs. Your participation not only made our students feel special and supported on their big day; it also contributed to nearly $11,000 being raised for the Student Activities Fund. We couldn't have done it without you -- thank you!
CMSRU STUDENTS MAKING A SPLASH

Three of CMSRU's outstanding medical students -- Denise Garcia, Caroline Kaigh, and Darshan Patel -- have entered the AAMC's "ProjectMEd," a challenge that entails developing a 5-minute video depicting an idea for a program or initiative to work with K-12 public education to increase diversity in the health professions.

We are so proud to say that the video Denise, Caroline, and Darshan made, which focuses on bringing stimulating and innovative science education to Camden high school students, has been selected as one of THREE FINALISTS nationwide!

They're already the big winners in our book of course, but here's where we need your help! We need to get lots of votes so they can take home the top prize of $7,000 in funds to support their project. Vote early and often, and please share this opportunity with your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors. Let's show everyone what the CMSRU community can do!

CMSRU's first medical students from the city of Camden were featured in an article in The Philadelphia Inquirer. The story focuses on the encouragement and support that first-year students Samantha and Susana Collazo (above) receive from family, friends, and the community as they pursue their goals of becoming physicians. CMSRU's Pulse Program, and its importance in increasing diversity in the medical profession, is also highlighted, as is CMSRU's commitment to community service.

CMSRU's Camden Community Collaborative Practice (CCCP), also known as the student-run ambulatory clinic located near CMSRU at 3 Cooper Plaza, was showcased in a recent article in the Courier-Post. The story highlights the important service that this clinic provides for uninsured Camden residents. CMSRU Faculty on Groundbreaking Epilepsy Study Team
Russell J. Buono, PhD (right), and Thomas N. Ferraro, PhD (below), both Professors of Biomedical Sciences at CMSRU, were part of a team of more than 100 epilepsy researchers from around the globe who collaborated on an important epilepsy study that was published in the September edition of the prestigious medical journal The Lancet Neurology.

The study analyzed the largest genome wide association data set to date on DNA samples from epilepsy patients in order to identify the genetic influences on common forms of human epilepsy.

Through their analysis, the global team successfully identified new genetic variants associated with common forms of the disease. The collaboration of researchers organized and published as the "Consortium on Complex Epilepsies" under the umbrella of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE).
