In Memory of Leslie Cannon

Leslie Cannon, writer, humorist, mother, grandmother and dear friend to many, passed away March 7, 2016. Leslie attended classes at Women Writing for (a) Change from the earliest days in the 1990's, including retreats at Knob's Haven in Loretto, KY. She continued organizing writing retreats with and for friends at Knob's Haven for several years, the most recent in January 2016. Leslie was a founding WWf(a)C Foundation Board officer, and wrote and published our newsletter for several years. One of her close friends shared, " Women Writing was pivotal for Leslie - it nurtured her writing and her unique voice in a way that continued for the rest of her years, and it brought her together with many women of all ages and walks of life who became friends."

Leslie's daughters, Elizabeth and Meg, have lovingly created the Leslie Cannon Memorial Scholarship for Young Women Writing for (a) Change.  The many thoughtful memorials will reduce financial barriers for girls and young women who wish to attend our writing classes and summer camps. On behalf of our young writers, we are grateful for the many who have contributed to this scholarship, and share our sadness with all who will miss the remarkable Leslie Cannon.
Youshare Project

Ashlee Brown Blewett and her husband, Nick, have created a global writing community with an emphasis on civility.

" In January 2015, my husband, Nick, and I launched an online global community of writers and readers like no other. We were tired of the negative, divisive, and fear-based rhetoric we heard and saw every time we flipped on the news or read popular websites (especially the comments sections)-so we decided to stop complaining about it and start being the change we want to see in the world. We launched the Youshare Project:  www.youshareproject.com
with the dream of creating a more conscious and thoughtful global society."  Continue Reading
