President's Message

In May, much-needed reform to the 1976 Toxic Substance Chemicals Act (TSCA) passed the U.S. House of Representatives and is expected to soon pass the U.S. Senate and be signed into law. The new legislation ensures the EPA can quickly review and take action on asbestos. ADAO also helped defeat the FACT bill in Pennsylvania, which would have delayed relief for victims of asbestos exposure. Enormous thanks to the ADAO champions who testified at Congressional hearings, called their lawmakers, sent opposition letters, and shared their stories. YOU make our work possible.

Please join ADAO for two upcoming events that blend art with advocacy. On June 17, Earl Dotter is presenting his photography exhibit, BADGES: A Memorial Tribute to Asbestos Workers in Texas. On July 7 in West Hollywood, musician and mesothelioma victim Warren Zevon will be honored at a fundraising party benefiting ADAO complete with live music, a photo exhibit of Zevon's rock star heyday, and an auction of memorabilia.

Video recordings from each session during our 2016 conference are now available online. Humongous thanks to Herman Hamilton who puts so much time into making these videos accessible. Watch this month's featured video to meet Herman.

Congratulations to Annamarie for a smashing success at her Rockin' for Meso event

ADAO is excited to announce our 13th Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference is scheduled for April 7-9, 2017.

Together, we are and will continue making change happen.

The passage of TSCA has been briefly delayed as Sen. Rand Paul held the bill so he can fully review the final language. It's not IF - just WHEN.  The U.S. Senate has the votes to pass the TSCA compromise bill and the White House has expressed support.
