Houmas House Plantation and Gardens

 Easter Sunday at Houmas House

Bring Home the Story of Houmas House
You've toured the mansion, strolled through the gardens, and experienced a culinary delight in one of our restaurants. It's time to return home but you're not quite ready to leave behind your unforgettable experience.  With the release of our Houmas House Book, you can remember every detail of our history, every color throughout the gardens, and every reason why you want to return to The Sugar Palace.
A magnificent pictorial and history of the enchanting mansion, gardens, and buildings of Louisiana's Sugar Palace.  Artist, author and photographer Jim Blanchard's compilation of recent and historic photography, archival research, and treasures from the Houmas Collections unfold in his tribute to the families of the great sugar barons Daniel Clark, Wade Hampton, John Burnside, and William Porcher Miles.

The historic tribute also included early explorers and settlers of the vast Louisiana Territory, and their encounters with the Houmas Indians during expeditions prior to the Louisiana Purchase.

Priced at $95.00
We can ship anywhere in the U.S. for $10.00

Orders can be placed by phone by calling the Houmas House Gift Shop - 225-473-9380

Scarlett is No Myth at Houmas House
As Seen by Princess Maggie

Have you ever seen Gone With the Wind?  Watching Scarlett O'Hara sashaying across the lawn in the hoop skirt and sipping tea makes plantation life look romantic, beautiful and simple.  Don't you wish you could spend a day living like her?
A day at Houmas House is very similar to that very scene.  Lush gardens and mossy oak trees stretch across 38 acres surrounding the grand mansion.  Standing on the veranda overlooking the front lawn you can almost envision the horse-drawn carriage coming up to greet you.
And upon entering the big house, you'll marvel at the hand painted murals, original artwork and rare antiques throughout.  Your guide will pull you in with her southern drawl and entertain you with her stories of the significant owners that built this estate.  You might forget you're in the twenty-first century just for a moment.
It's a brief escape from today--  A quick trip to the early 1800's when life was simpler and slower.
So next time you think about where you might go on your next vacation, remember The Sugar Palace. Time travel really is possible.

Much Love,
Princess Maggie
