Purim was an amazing day at Akiva. We began with the reading of the Megillah for all students in the gym. The students were very well behaved and we were able to hear every word. Everyone enjoyed banging and making noise when we read Haman's name. We danced and sang Shoshanat Yaakov after we finished. Every student got to prepare a Mishloach Manot package for another student in the school. We enjoyed decorating and filling the package with yummy treats including Mrs. Mashiah's famous Hamantashen. She also made delicious meringues for us. Afterwards our Parade Marshals (Adeev and Brandon) led the whole school singing and dancing in and out of the school, upstairs and downstairs and all around!
We had a festive Purim Seudah for lunch followed by extra long recess on demand. Grade 1 students led by Morah Miller and Morah Orly went to bring Purim cheer to the residents of the Renoir retirement home. The festivities concluded with a sneak preview performance of the House of Jacob Purim play written by Rabbi Miller, directed by Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Ortega, and performed by the Akiva Drama club members. It was a smashing hit!
