St. Bonaventure's College's Alumnus of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding graduate whose contributions have notably improved both their profession a
nd community.

The recipient is a well-rounded person who is intellectually competent, open to growth, religious, loving and committed to justice in the generous service to the people of God.
They enrich the lives of others through their leadership, shared knowledge, creativity and innovation and they inspire alumni, students, faculty and staff.
The Magis Award for Young Alumni honours a young alumnus with a record of extraordinary professional, community or academic achievement.
The recipient is a young adult who has continued to include religion in their lives, is intellectually competent, loving and open to growth. Following the teachings of St. Bonaventure's College these alumni remain committed to justice in the generous service of the people of God. Recipients of the award will be 30 years of age or younger as of the close of nominations for the Awards.
The Alumnus of the Year Award and the Magis Award are presented annually at the Alumni Dinner held in the fall of the year. This year's Alumni Dinner will be October 2oth.

Alumni vs Students Hockey Game A Real Nail-biter!

| A great time was had by all at the annual Alumni Vs Students Hockey game. The Alumni started the game with a big lead but the students gained ground in the last quarter. It wasn't enough in the end and the Alumni took home the glory with a score of 8-5. |

St. Bon's Releases New Video on the Ignatius Society

Many people have heard of St. Bonaventure's College Ignatius Society and of our Bursary Fund.
We have often featured it in our newsletters and mail-outs. But w
ords alone cannot express the impact members of the Ignatius Society have on the lives of the students that attend St. Bon's through the Bursary Fund. Our words also cannot express the true level of
passion the members have in our Jesuit eduction or the difference it makes to the children.
We hope this video does.

Alumni Profiles: Dr. Kevin Keough '60
|
Dr. Kevin Keough '60 has achieved many outstanding accomplishments in his career. He credits his time at St. Bon's and the teachers for impacting his life profoundly
and
guiding him into the person he has become today.
"All of my teachers had different impacts on me. The impressions left varied with the stage of my time at the school. They left values of respect for others and self-respect; they challenged us so that we would learn to challenge ourselves; they encouraged us to not to be afraid to take on new things; and, each in his own way led us to understand that self-discipline and hard work is necessary throughout life," said Dr. Keough
Dr. Keough is currently the executive director of the Alberta Prion Research Institute. He is co-founder, president and chief scientific officer of NovaLipids Inc. and Timol Technologies Incorporated, the principal of Kevin Keough Consulting Inc., and a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. He
was the first Vice-President (Research and International Relations) at Memorial University of Newfoundland and
is also professor emeritus of Biochemistry there and has had an active career in research
on biological membranes and lung surfactant
for nearly fifty years.
Dr. Keough held the position of first Chief Scientist at Health Canada in Ottawa and is a member of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Governing Council. He was a founding Director of Genome Canada and was a co-founder of a high-technology business incubator, the Genesis Centre.
He is the author or co-author of 140 published scientific papers, one book, 190 presentations at scientific conferences, and 70 invited scientific presentations at national and international institutions and conferences.
Keough has been a member of the boards of directors and governing councils of many agencies and not-for-profit corporations, including the Medical Research Council of Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Genome Canada. He is currently on the boards of the Alberta Centre for Advanced Micro-Nano Technology Products and the Science Media Centre of Canada.
Keough has served as a consultant to national and international research organizations, the pharmaceutical industry and to various levels of government. He continues to participate in research-related activities and is frequently consulted on issues of policy and management in science and innovation by academia, government and the private sector.
Despite his tremendously busy career spanning the past 5 decades Dr. Keough still takes time to reflect on the teachers that shaped the man he is today.
"In grade four Br. Gilchrist first let me know that I was a person, not just a receptacle for learning information. That awareness was built upon through grammar school years by Brs. Heathwood, Walsh and McCarthy, "said Dr. Keough, " I also learned that rigorous analysis was equally important in science from Moss Quinlan and in literature from Dr. Duffy."
He remembers Br McCarthy and Mike Woodford challenging students in the classroom and in music and in hockey, Br. Clancy took many under his wing to learn some chemistry. Br. Kean was like a father figure of the institution for many and was always engaged, interested and supportive.
And although he was never his teacher Br. Darcy made a large impact on Dr. Keough's life. "I learned from him how to bring all those values above into focus in my life."
"The teacher whom I remember with deepest respect is Michael Walsh - Sad Sack. He was our main teacher in grades six and ten and our history teacher in grade eleven. He had a special quality of understanding what we needed collectively and as individuals at our various stages of development, and positioning us to do our best for ourselves and for others. And he had a great, understated sense of humour!"
Dr. Keough continues to participate in research activities and advising, and is frequently consulted on issues of science and innovation policy and management by academia, government and industry.
