Kennedy Behling was recognized as the NBHS Student of the month.

2016 6A UIL Wrestling State Medalists and Qualifier

Leilani Vital (3rd) and Gabby Hernandez (5th) were recognized as state medalists and Bryce Marsh was recognized as a state qualifier and Top 12 finisher at the 2016 6A UIL State Wrestling Tournament.

Consent Agenda

All items on the Consent Agenda are considered to be routine by the Board of Trustees and will be enacted with one motion. There will be no separate discussion of the items unless a Board member so requests, in which event the item will be removed from the Consent Agenda and considered as an item on the Regular Agenda. The following items were approved:  
  • Renewal of Auto and Liability Insurance Coverage from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Risk Management Fund in the amount of $23,483 for Professional Legal Liability and $23,400 for Vehicle coverage
  • Minutes to the Team Building Workshop held on January 27, 2016

2015-2016 General Fund Budget Amendment to increase the budget as a result of two items: amending estimated revenue and appropriations to account for iPad repairs in the amount of $48,685; and budgeting previously committed fund balance for the purchase of land to build the elementary in Veramendi in the amount of $856,174

Correction to the Notice of School Board Election scheduled for May 7, 2016, to reflect the following changes: replace Renew Church with Klein Road Elementary as the District #1 polling place in Guadalupe County; Lone Star Elementary will serve as the polling place only for District #4; single polling place for Districts 3, 4 & 5; District 1 & 2 will have a single polling locations within each County the District's boundaries overlap. These changes are due to the cancellation of the City of New Braunfels election in which NBISD has entered into a Joint Election Agreement.

Renewal of the ESC Region 13 Regional Day School Program for the Deaf Agreement. Fees for this program are paid through State and Federal Special Education funds on a per child basis at approximately $24,402 for two semesters and $12,201 for one semester per student. NBISD has five students who receive services for two semesters and one who receives services for one semester.

District participation in the development, funding and construction of a haul road to the new elementary school located in the Veramendi Subdivision and the items and conditions required for involvement. The funding allowance for this project is $600,000 and included in the Veramendi school construction contract.

Contractor for the construction of two new elementary schools to include a combination base proposal, the recommended value engineering items, and alternates 1 & 3 (for both campuses) submitted by Cadence McShane in the amount of $45,037,197.00. Funding for these projects will be provided using the unallocated 2010 Bond Funds, 2015 Bond Funds and NBISD Fund Balance.

District participation in the development of the permanent roadway to the new elementary school located in the Veramendi subdivision and the terms and conditions required for involvement. The project is estimated to cost $1.2 million.

Purchase of Wilson Language Training's Fundations instructional materials for $57,202.20 to be purchased with federal Title I funds.

Purchase of a one-year subscription to the Edivate: Online Professional Development System from School Improvement Network for $38,750.03 to be paid from budgeted federal Title I and Title II funds.

Recommendation that the Board of Trustees along with the Superintendent, certify that the district's instructional materials and resources collectively cover 100% of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) 2016-2017.

Payment to the Think Forward Institute for approximately $40,000.00 for the Project-Based Learning (PBL) training of more than 85 NBISD teachers and staff to be paid primarily from local Gifted and Talented funds for professional development.

Purchase of 13 Apple Mac Pro computers at a cost of $50,895 for the NBHS Career and Technical Education (CTE) Animation Lab. This purchase includes 13 computers, Apple Care Protection Plan, 27-inch display, and keyboard with mouse for each computer.
